While most everything has been covered in other reviews, I'd like to point out how great an idea it was to put these into three separate baggies of four each. Not only can you split them up easily between different packs/locations, but even if you store them together, it avoids keeping all yoru eggs in one basket. If there is a single puncture in a bag, not all of them are ruined. It really is a great idea.
This is a great little tinder. Probably some type of cotton coated with a wax accelerant. If you Frey the ends it will catch a spark quite nicely and burn for about 2 mins. The package says it's waterproof, but I hesitate to say that. If soaked in water, then lit it will not catch a spark. You can pull it apart and hope the inner core is still somewhat dry. In this case, it would catch a spark. Or, if you let it dry for a while, it would probably catch a spark. Overall, not bad tinder.
Took me a few minutes to get these working but I figured it out. Take one end of the tinder-quik and fray it open as much as possible. Then shoot your spark into the frayed end, it will light up very easily. If you just throw sparks at it, it will not ignite. You can also cut it into much smaller pieces and then take those pieces and rip them up into a small pile and ignite that easily. It makes these 12 last much longer.
...so not much else needs to be said... this is the real stuff and imho it's the best tinder to have for emergency fire starting under adverse conditions or inclement weather... carry a cube of wet-fire, or two, and you'll start a fire even with a spark under wettest, windiest conditions... great product and I've long stopped making my own petroleum jelly/cotton balls in favor of just buying these once in a while... it's worth it to me at its relatively very low price although i'll likely be buying these in 50 pc lots from now on...
Nice fire starter. Great for a emergency/bug out pack as part of a fire kit. Ignites from a ferro rod reasonable well.

These work great. I usually make my own tinder from cotton balls or jute twine, with petroleum jelly or wax added, but sometimes I like to add something new to my pack. These were a little expensive for what you get, considering that I can make my own tinder for about a nickel each.
Anyway, these work, and if you don't mind the cost, just buy a couple of packs and throw them in your bug out bag.

Got this for emergencies for my son since he goes off road all the time. Hoping he’ll never have to use it, but if needed it’ll be handy.
I think that this tinder fills a void for good compact tinder. If you have a little more room then vasaline cotton balls are the way to go .In a small tin these are flat enough and take a spark well. I would recomend carrying them even if you do have the cotton balls because they are small enough and cheap enough for there to be no down side.
