GreenPig Solutions 52 Concentrated Formula Live Septic Tank Treatment, 1 Year Supply
I hardly ever leave a review just because I don't have the time. But this product is amazing!!!!!! Our leach field was in bad bad shape but we have zero money to fix it. I did what another reviewer posted and put one packet in both toilets and one in the sink due to us having a grease trap also. One week later and we almost are completely dry!!! Here are some photos.
After building our house, we weren't knowledgeable about dealing with a septic system. (Previously, we'd been on a town sewer system.) Initially, we didn't use any septic treatment and on top of that continued to use products containing bleach to clean the toilets, sinks, etc. When we finally had the tank pumped, we were told there were a LOT of solids and that we needed to do treatments and have them come back in about six months. I researched and found this product. Instead of using it every three months as instructed, we put one packet down the toilet monthly. We stopped using bleach products. Our garbage disposal went up and we purchased one for homes with septic tanks that injects good bacteria whenever you run the unit (for us maybe 2-3 times a week). By the time the septic service company came back, they were able to completely pump out the septic tank. They were impressed with the condition of the tank and felt we could return to a 2-3 year pumping schedule. We will definitely continue to use this product! Paying a little for it is well worth the savings we'll realize by having the tank pumped less often as well as avoiding any more significant performance problems with our septic system.
In the past I have used other products, Rid X in my system. But last time I had my septic cleaned out, my vacuum guy shared with me this product. Prior to switching to Green Pig, I would have to pour half a box of Rid X in and flush the toilet a few times to get it into my system. Using it every two months, I averaged a pump out every 4 years. This last time I used Green Pig and had an addition to my family, (brother) and we were able to go 5 years and the only reason I called to have the system pumped out was because I was afraid that it was full and did not want to damage my drain lines. When they came to pump it out, my vacuum guy commented that I probably had another year or so and that the tank was mostly sludge and not compacted.
What I really like about this product is that it comes in a water soluble packet that dissolves once you flush it. No more measuring out the box or leaving half empty boxes under my sink or in the laundry room. I tend to use this every month as directed, but only because it is soo much easier and the small packets had me wondering if it is enough bacteria to eat away the waste. Now that I have seen the results, I am much more confident and don't have to worry about the pets or kids getting into the box.
I am a believer and will continue to sue this product. I highly recommend it.
Simply fantastic! We live in an older home with a small septic tank. The tank was being cleaned out frequently due to filling up too quick. I noticed how green the grass always remained near the tank. Spoke with at least 2 plumbers one who actually came out. Both said its a Drain field issue! Toilets were overflowing and backing up in the shower. We were stressed beyond comprehension. The last time the Septic people arrived and cleaned the tank I had them drop 1 bag in the tank and 1 in each Drain Field line. All of my problems disappeared and its been a year. I am so happy I brought this product it works! I will continue to treatment my tank with it.
For several years our septic system has been from sluggish, to backing up, to on the verge of complete failure depending on the amount of rain. I didn't have the money for a new system, so I have tried several things. I have tried oxygen bleach directly in the field lines, which is a pain and only helped a little. I tried lime-sulfur in the field lines, which didn't help at all. I was running out of affordable options. A search of Amazon led me to another product called "Biowish 100109 Septic Rescue" to restore failed systems using live bacteria with good reviews, but it costs a lot more than GreenPig and GreenPig has similar reviews. I decided to try a two year supply and use it similar to the instructions for the Biowish. I used two doses the first day and a week later I could actually walk across that part of my yard without marring up in the muck. One week after the first two doses, I used two more to be a booster. It has been almost a month since the first dose and the problem area that was about 30 feet long and six feet wide has dried up and the grass has grown back. I would recommend anyone having problems with an old sluggish septic system try GreenPig before spending the big bucks. I don't know why they don't market GreenPig as a septic restorer instead of just a maintainer.

This seemed to have worked for us. We built our home 22 years ago and had a 3 bedroom capacity septic system installed (1000 gallon) with an infiltrator leach field system. We never had the tank pumped until last year. That was a mistake but we didn't know and the installer told us there was no reason to pump it as long as you don't flush things or put things down the drain that are harmful to a septic. You can google the list and a lot of it is just common sense. 1.5 years ago I noticed a puddle at the top-d box end of the leach field. It was about the size of a large metal trash can lid. I had the system pumped and kept watching the puddle. I purchased another (liquid) brand of system treatment and tried it following user recommendations- pretty much double the manufacturer guidelines.
Waited and watched/waited and watched. I think the liquid was trying to do something but it just didn't seem to be working as quickly as I thought it should (3 months)
So, I bought a year supply of this product and hit it hard just like some of the other reviewers suggested. It took about 30-45 days but the puddle is completely gone and there is 0 odor. I can only assume this worked and I will keep using it for maintenance but will also have the tank pumped every 2-3 years. It seems what you really need to watch for is a bio-mat build up. Wow- you don't want a problem like that. It is incredibly expensive to correct by excavation/repair/replace.
Also many health departments now require the septic pump companies to report their jobs and any deficiencies they encounter. I guess the is reasonable but could put a homeowner in a really tough position.
I will keep using this product and likely at a higher dose than normal. It is a pittance amount of money compared to what could be.

For 55 yrs., I lived using sewers. For the last 15, I have been subjected to septic systems. I have no idea how they work or when the need cleaning or draining. But I was having trouble with 1 toilet in my house draining properly. I put a packet of this stuff in. My wife told me it was a waste of money since the whole system would be backing up if it was an overloaded system. She has live with septics most of her life so I was listening to her. Regardless, a few days after I threw a packet of the Green Pig in my commode, I have had no problems. There may have bee a slight blockage that it cured on the way to the tank. I have no idea. If anyone can enlighten me please do so.
Delivered on time. Long story about my septic, first time using septic. I used RidX for 14 years every month, not emptied once. Then it started backing up,spent long time researching about septic, now i know inside out about the septic tank. Had it emptied, filled up in one week as the drain lines were shot like RBG, empty again ($400x2). Septic guy said i had to add a new drain lines, or go with aerobic/inspections every yr, costing me at least 10g, almost called the county inspector who charged $450 to do it. I've decided to go with the green pig as the research suggested, used 1 yr supply for week 1 until I used up 5 yr supply in 5 weeks. After 5-6 weeks i noticed a green grass growing on the drain lines - almost felt like kissing the dam n silky grass. i got another order of 5 yr supply and will use one pack every month (1 yr supply for 4 months). I am going to pump the septic every 3 yrs, worth it, if you consider the consequences of bio-mat in the drain pipes. Expensive novice mistake corrected by the green pig with the help from the internet. While septic was recovering, no dish washer, washer, dumping all the water outside in the garden - only bear necessities.
In August my family of 7 moved into a house formerly owned by a family of two. The house was built in 1980. At first I noticed a random septic smell outside the front door every once in a awhile, then a couple times a week. The smell grew in intensity and the timing was awful, always as guests were visiting. Then the smell became daily and it was how I started and ended my day. At its worst, the smell creeped in the house and it would induce gagging like a port-a-potty, at a rock concert, in August; I could taste it the smell was so bad!! Two weeks ago the smell even began coming out of the toilets when we flushed!!
I googled, I researched, I had multiple plumbers and septic people all visit only to say, "yep! It smells!!" but offer few solutions other than extending my roof top vent pipe, putting peppermint oil down the vent pipe ...even chopping down trees!! I had no clogged drains. Water ran great. Septic field was fine. Tanks were cleaned June. What could I do?
One plumber was talking about how my smell was a sign everything was working because the vent pipe was taking the smell out of the septic tanks and house but maybe my pipes smelled? He used BioClean and said I should get some to clean the pipes and that that might help my smell. He said he would bring some next weekend but in the mean time as I researched BioClean on Amazon, I came across Green Pig! One of the customer review quotes said this product addressed smell. I bought a two year supply and it came in two days, I'm still waiting for the plumber to bring me some BioClean...
Last Wednesday night I had my Green Pig and the septic smell was atrocious, the entryway of my home wreaked!! I put one packet of Green Pig in an upstairs toilet but was too impatient to wait another three months to put in the second so I put another pouch in a main floor toilet. I let the pouches sit maybe three minutes and flushed!! It was late at night so I went to bed and woke up early to go to work the next morning...
IT WORKS!!!!! I feel like a freak walking around sniffing the air, popping my head outside in the freezing cold and snow, but I have not smelled the septic smell in 4 days since using Green Pig!!
We have our dream home back to smelling like nothing !! I'm even waking up in the middle of the night sticking my head out the front door sniffing thinking this is too good to be true!! But it works! That fast! Multiple times a day, almost 24 hrs a day, my home smelled for at least the past two months and before that it was far too frequent for my liking. Now it's gone, just like that!!!
I'm so thankfull I found Green Pig on Amazon and I'm thrilled its a product that delivers as promised!! I know it's only been a couple of days but my smell was awful and daily and it was gone the next morning! I'll update my review in May (3 months) when I put in my next pouch as per directions. :)

UPDATE: This product is great! I bought a house that had a septic system installed in the 1970's and has been a rental for years. Despite having a pump and certification during escrow, I wondered about the health of the system. For the first month I'd get the odd whiff of septic in the yard, though no drain field problems visually (the house is the desert). I put in one packet and within a few days the sewer scent left. About two weeks later, I smelled it again and called the GreenPig Company. The spokesperson (owner?) returned my call saying that I could use it up to once a week if I felt it needed it (if the odor returned). He said that using one packet with a week or two between dosing is more effective than a few packets at once. I followed his instructions and dosed my septic system weekly for 4 weeks (with one packet dissolved in the toilet then flushed). I've had a lot of guests, ran my dishwasher and washing machine regularly and the household has had 2-6 showers per day since then. NO SCENT!! I'm buying more to use as needed. I suspect that once my system has adjusted I will dose it only once per month. I hope to get many more years from my septic system with the Green Pig product. Thank you so much.
