I just had my hip replaced. I am using the ossur ice compression machine and just purchased the cold rush up pad for the right side. This pad works well and provided my hip with the best icing when compared to the cold packs I bought. The machine allows for a more consistent temperature and the water being constantly pumped into the pad allows for the best coverage since the pack doesn’t melt and get pushed to the side. The pad is large enough to ice my hip. My only complaints about the pad are I wish it was a little bit larger and that the ends connected with the middle. I also wish that he smaller strap was a little larger. I had an extra strap and the extra strap worked much better. A tip for the ossur machine. Freeze smaller water bottles and cool whip containers for ice or smaller tupper ware containers to help keep the machine run cooler for longer.
A nice piece that I use when committed. One fill lasts a long time, so you can take care of more than one piece of your body. A hint for use. It takes a lot of ice, and no refrigerator can provide it fast enough for all uses. So get a few small bottles of water, like half a pint bottles, and put them in the freezer. I use 4 at a time and after use, put them back in the freezer. Works like a charm.
I just had surgery(#2) on my Achilles and this thing was a lifesaver. The last go around, I used gel ice packs which required a rotation of the packs since they didn't stay cold long. This was especially difficult at night because the pack would need to be replaced at like 3am, which did not make for a happy spouse! The Ossur system and this foot and ankle pad saved the day the 2nd time around. I used one of the velcro pads to secure the heal area together so it cupped my heal better. The tubes end up being located on the bottom of your foot and then run to the Ossur system. I didn't find them to get in the way or be in a bad position but when you are shifting through the night, the tubes can get caught up on whatever you are using to elevate your leg. Still, an incredibly minor inconvenience. As I progress into a walking boot and PT in the coming weeks, I'll be pulling this bad boy back out to alleviate the discomfort.
Please see my other review on the device itself. I gave three stars because it should cove all the way around the knee. The hamstring muscles on the back of the knee are involved also after Total knee surgery. Get the universal pad and save yourself some hassles.
The Ossur cold-chill unit is simple and useful but the pads are easily damaged and meant for one patient use (meaning one incident). My daughter had knee surgery and found this chiller unit essential in her recovery. It was expensive to buy so she kept it for later use. When she tried to use it later for a friend the pad was full of mold (it's almost impossible to get all the water out of it). We tried to use bleach to kill the mold and rinse it out but this damaged the plastic so it leaked like a sieve. We had to buy a new pad before it could be used again and they are not cheap - usually over 50USD but finally found one for 44 w/ shipping. Still expensive for a disposable item but without this pad the rest of the unit is trash. We will try to find a way to air dry pad internally after use before storing this time.

I have the universal and this one. After my surgery with the scars on my knee cap this one came in handy with the middle cutting out before the surgery the universal one worked well and covered everything that hurt .
My wife has had knee problems for a long time. I had undergone shoulder surgery and got a machine that runs chilled water through a similar pad designed for shoulders. We bought this one for knees and it works great. Hooked it up and withing a short while her knee pain was greatly diminished. Excellent accessory for cold joint therapy.
Have used it 10 days while recovering from rotator cuff surgery and it has worked flawlessly. Much more convenient than ice packs. Assistance may be needed when connecting the fittings on shoulder pad to the fittings from main unit if your arm is in sling or has limited movement and strength. I am 5' 10" and the large size is perfect. Would recommend to anyone needing cold therapy relief.
As advertised. Comes with 2 straps, 1 to secure to your leg, and 1 around your torso, after hip after surgery. It should come with 1 long strap and 2 short straps. As you can see, there are 3 cooling pads, and with only 2 straps the unsecured pad does not cool as efficiently as the other 2 pads do.
We ordered the pad when my son had surgery to remove a tumor from the top of his foot. The doctor recommended ice therapy but the insurance company would not cover the recommended machine, so we purchased our own. This was the best way to get him back on his feet in time for Winter soccer season. There was no pad specifically for the top of the foot, but the ankle pad worked well as it is pretty easy to adjust.
