I have been using this grinder to grind 10 fairly large horse pills (yes, they are for a horse) every night, and it works very well. I also have a Silent Knight pill crusher, and this little manual grinder works much better. Both work best with just 2 pills at a time, but the Silent Knight requires pouring of the powder into another container between crushings, and I have trouble with dust and spillage, plus it requires using little bags that last only a few crushings. The Equadose grinder solves all these issues by dropping the grinds into a container that then unscrews off the grinder, and I just screw the lid on and take it to the barn with me. No mess, no fuss. I mix the medicine into the horse's grain, pop the container back in my pocket, and am ready to do it again the next day. The grinding mechanism is seems robust, and I expect it to last well. These pills are pretty hard, and it handles them well. And it is very easy to clean. I am very very pleased with this little device!
If this hadn't existed, l was going to create one. Coated pills, like Ibuprofen, as with any crusher, will leave a residue requiring frequent cleaning. Easy to take apart. Grind can be adjusted to be as fine as talc or coarser. Previously, my wrist and forearm were becoming painful from other cheap grinders that don't work well. Save your money and use instead for this one. I don't know why others who rated low had any problem with it. I find it a lifesaver.
My husband has a brain tumor and will no longer take his pills. The only way I can get him to take all his medications is to crush them and put them in food. I bought the Ezy Dose Portable Pill Crusher from our local grocery store, but it took forever (could only do a couple of same sized pills at a time, crush, tap the container, crush, tap the container, etc). So I did a bit of review reading here on Amazon, trying to find one that works better for multiple pills. I checked out all the less expensive ones (why do all these medical things cost so much money?!), but all of them had the same complaints ... multiple pills did not grind well. Then in one of the reviews someone mentioned they prefer the Equadose Pill Crusher. I was skeptical at first (it's just about the most expensive option), but after reading the differences I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did!
This morning I stuck all my husbands pills, various sizes, in the Equadose and turned the crank. Within seconds ALL the pills were beautifully crushed. No larger little pieces that my super picky husband would notice. Just for the heck of it I put the crushed pills back through the grinder and turned the crank again. Everything came out as a smooth powder!
The only thing I wish I could afford would be more of the jars with lids so I could do more batches at a time (on their website you can get 3 for $15 but after spending over $4000 since Dec for medical chairs, beds, and other equipment & special foods, I just can't keep hemorrhaging money like this).
Note: not all pills should be crushed (like time released medications or those that have special coatings so they don't break down until they get to the intestines) so be sure to check with your pharmacist (I hadn't thought of that before doing more research).
This is the best pill grinder I have found. It is sturdy and easy to use. It will crush any size pill, you do not have to break the pill first. Adjustments form course to fine is simple. Cleaning is easy as the grinder comes apart without any problems. The crank is easy to turn and stays in place. Best grinder ever!!!!!
Very happy with my purchase. I have a family member with a feeding tube who requires medications several times a day. I have tried numerous crushers from the cheap drug store ones to 3 very expensive models that only pancaked the pills. This devise works very well and can crush at least 5 very hard tablets at a time fine enough to be added to the feeding tube. It is also easy to adjust the grind to the consistency needed. This device works great and has been a much needed time saver for myself who is a primary caregiver. Many thanks for a great product!

As for the grinder I finally have something that helps my disabled son crush his pill for his feeding tube.
If you are having trouble with pills get this product. I also take it apart once or twice a month and clean it - so easy.
After years of disappointing experiences with pill grinder/crushers, I finally found one that, for me, is the perfect solution to the daily ritual of grinding my rather hard prescription medications. The Equadose Pill Crusher/Grinder is far superior to the others I've tried in ease of operation and adjustability. It's superbly designed, easy to clean and manufactured with top-quality components, quite unlike the other grinders that I have tried and rejected over the years. I prefer a very fine grind and the Equadose excels in providing it. It is the first and only grinder that actually meets my expectations and performs exactly as advertised.
Definitely a must have! It's small enough to be portable but large enough to grind as many pills as you want to. Takes a little more time to dry and you need to make sure it's completely dry before using or your pills turn to mush. I'm quadriplegic with a feeding tube and everything has to go into the tube. You can grind the pills as fine or coarse as you desire. I have been using it for about a week now and will update if anything changes, but I am very glad I purchased it and it's worth every cent I spent on it.
When a coffee grinder doesn't cut it, this pill crusher does. So far so good after 6 weeks of using it 6 times a day. As long as you remember to tighten the plastic screw on the bottom it will grind to a powder. We like it so much we bought a second one and a family member bought one. The quality of the grinder is much better than we expected. And I like that we can order replacement parts if we ever need them.
Just bought the equadose pill crusher and I must say... I’m definitely happy with my purchase! Thought the stainless steel grinders looked cool but after reading reviews this seemed like the superior product. I definitely was right! It feels a lot more solid then it looks in the photos and I put 55 aspirin in it to grind and had no problem turning them all into powder! 55 at once!!
