This is a very effective, well made infrared heating pad. I was already using an older model UTK jade pad, which I really liked. This newer model is even better, with an updated control, and a longer cord. It is effective for relieving pain, and is so relaxing, that I easily fall asleep when using it.

I am absolutely addicted to my far infrared mat. I use it during Yin yoga and meditation as well as every day relaxation and pain relief. I love how light weight it is, it's easy to move around to different locations and how it forms to the body part that you are using it on. The deep penetrating heat is so relaxing and revitalizing. I have used the Amethyst Biomat extensively and prefer this mat due to it's versatility, ease of use and comfort.
What does pain relief mean to you? If you are in excruciating pain, as I have been for the last seven months, you will search high and low for anything and everything to alleviate that pain. I HAVE FOUND IT!!!
I have Piriformis Syndrome on the left side, from lower back to the ball of my left foot. This horrible condition leaves you absolutely incapacitated; you can't sit, stand, walk, lay down without the most horrible pain imaginable. Sleep is impossible; the second you move that pain wakes you right up. Anyone with sciatica knows EXACTLY the kind of pain I am talking about. You think it will never end. When you have this condition, the pain is a wicked cycle... the pain makes those muscles contract, causing even more pain. A regular heating pad from the drug store is NOT going to give you the healing you need. The second you turn it off the pain comes roaring right back.
So, I did some homework, and I discovered that you need the kind of heat that will go deep into your body... like several inches into the very muscles that are injured. What was needed was an infrared heating pad. An added benefit that was important to me was that this product does not emit dangerous electromagnetic radiation (EMF). So, because the pain area is just above my waist to the tips of my toes, I ordered the Medium T-Plus size... turned out that was the perfect size. In addition, I also ordered a cover for the pad (UTK® Replacement Cover Bag for UTK Far Infrared Heating Pad Medium Plus Size&Medium T-Plus Size (21” x 38”) 100% Polyester Fiber by UTK) . THAT was a very good decision as you need to place a towel or sheet between you and the pad, and with the cover, which is washable, you can dispense with the towel. The cover is very well made and you won't be sorry that you got it.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I received this fantastic product today, and the relief this pad has given me in just the last couple of hours is beyond words! I thought at first, am I going to be able to lay on this pad with my back pain?
After all, these are stones! But, I was genuinely surprised! Even though I expected the pad to be heavy, it wasn't that bad. I placed the pad on my bed and laid down on top of the pad... I was shocked! It wasn't uncomfortable at all! The stones are thin and smooth and hardly noticeable. The other pads made by different companies has crushed stones, and the reviews from the customers who got those pads complained the pads were uncomfortable to lay on. I can assure you that the people from UTK who developed this pad gave a great deal of thought to comfort, and THIS pad is made with comfort in mind. After all, if you are in pain to begin with, you don't want to add discomfort to the equation.
I read the little booklet that came with the pad, and it was very easy to read and understand. I couldn't wait any longer... I turned on the pad for my first treatment. WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! I set the timer for 30 minutes, and as I lay there, I could feel the heat penetrate every muscle of my back and legs. It went deep and I could feel the muscles relax. And more importantly, the pain became less and less! I got up after the timer turned off the pad, and I moved around for an hour. I wasn't completely pain free,and I didn't expect that I would be so soon, but in that hour I could still feel the heat in my body from the pad! That made moving around much easier. An outstanding statement for a product just after 30 minutes of use!
I then put the pad on my living room chair and I have been using it all day. I plan to use it as much as possible, including using it tonight when I go to bed. I will put it at a low setting as recommended, and maybe I will be able to have the first pain free night of sleep in seven months!
All I know is that I have finally found something that will help me to treat the horrible pain I have been in, and I hope this review will give you hope to address your pain issues too.

This product exceeded my expectations
first medium size is big, can cover your whole back. Second, it has a large range of temperatures. The hottest (150F) feels hotter than any conventional heating pad I've used, so I had to reduce the settng to like 115 to get it comfortable. So I think the technology provides plenty of heat. Third I like that it does not produce an electromagnetic field like other heating pads. Fourth the infrared projects itself to penetrate more. I think it is just a superior, modern technology. I am pleased, at least this first day, with this product.
This is great. I have never had a heating pad like this. So soothing, goes deep to the pain area. I get painful muscle spasms. This calms most of the spasm, and relieves pain. I am surprised I haven't ever had a medical professional ever suggest it.
I love the large size and the stones and the soothing, even heat. I use this product daily but I can't give it 5 stars because the controller unit has broken twice in the first 9 months of owning it. The controller unit is separate from the heating pad so it can be easily replaced. The product has a one-year warranty, and the company has replaced the controller for me. This requires some lengthy conversation with customer service, submitting photos of the problem, and a long shipping process, but at least they did the replacement eventually, both times.
I got this product for relieve with sciatica, a rib fracture, and neck and elbow pain. Overall, I am very pleased with this product. I'm not sure as to how effective it is, but I can say that the heating elements work well.
Pros:
- Good quality. Seems to be made well
- Extra long cord makes it easy to position the pad anywhere
- Flexibility makes it easy to wrap the pad anywhere. This was important to me because I wanted to be able to use it at night or in my chair at work.
- Temperature range is excellent! I find that it heats pretty evenly and quickly. I like mine at around 130 degrees.
Cons:
- I was surprised it didnt come with a belt or buckle to wrap it around your body. It came with a small nylon "string" that I wasnt sure could be used for anything. Had to buy a buckle to keep it secure for when I use it at night.
EDIT:
I will be using a temperature gun to see how evenly this heats in the near future.
Have only used the Medium T-Pro (98 tourmaline stones) for a few days, but I am surprised at how happy I am with this purchase. I have peripheral neuropathy and restless leg syndrome, and, so far, a session with the pad just before bed allows me to sleep though the night without the usual RLS torture and muscle cramping. It makes legs and back incredibly relaxed and my whole body calm. I even have better joint mobility in the morning.
The pad is solidly made, quite unlike many cheaper heating pads, with an easy to use remote and long cord, making plug in convenient. Well worth the money, even just for relaxation.
The company is also very accommodating and responsive to questions. Good customer service. (Note that the description of the pad at the UTK site says tourmaline and ocher stones, but the company says that is outdated and incorrect. This pad has all tourmaline stones of two different colors.)
