These food bars, sold by Always Be Prepared, were drop shipped directly from the factory the day they were ordered. They were current month production and should be good for the next five years.
They have the consistency of thick shortbread cookie, with a single 400 calorie serving being about 2 inches square and an inch and a half thick. The mild taste is similar cinnamon-apple.
I've tried other emergency bars and prefer the taste of Mayday's product. Yes, I did do a three day test with one 3600 calorie bag, along with water. Not high cuisine, but it was fine.
My nitpicks about this product are that the Mylar bag they are vacuum packaged in is not resealable, so have a baggie handy to protect the unused portion from contamination. You'll need a knife or scissors available as package is near impossible to open by hand. Also, though each bar is scored for its nine servings I would prefer they were pre-cut as they tend to crumble a bit when cut, again requiring a knife be on hand.
Actually, these are pretty excellent. Good taste. Dry, but only takes a normal amount of liquid to quench your thirst after.
Only downside is they are too thick to easily eat and they don't cut well at all. But I would say this is probably all you need to backpack for a month or more. Weighs about 35 pounds for the case though. You'd need ziplocs to keep the partial bars in after opening, because you AREN'T going to eat one entire package in one go. Might take a day and a half.
These are actually pretty good. The Mylar bag is hard to open so a knife or something like it is needed. A freezer bag to seal what is left. This can keep a person going for three days. Nothing works on the mind like starvation and while this will not satisfy an adult appetite, it will give enough to get out of a dangerous situation.
I have not tried one but that is really not the relevant point. At 3600 calories each, one bar could support a person for 1 to 2 days depending on the temperature and exertion level. They look like they should outlast the dust of the earth. Perfect for the lazy prepper or for a go bag.
I tested these out by spending a day with these bars as my only food source.
1/2 of a bar, and 18 hours later, I felt fine. I wasn't totally satisfied, but I wasn't starving and I had energy. I think that's the idea. I'm very glad to have these on hand in the case of an emergency. I would definitely recommend this product.

This will get you through emergencies fine, tastes okay too. Kind of like a dryish apple fritter.
An excellent product. I prefer to take it with water. Curbs the hunger pains for a long time.
These taste slightly better than the quake kake, same idea though. These are basically an Inch and a half thick undercooked cookie, fortified with vitamins, that has a 5 yr shelf life. They are tasty enough.
Tasty (ish) and seemingly just as advertised, EXCEPT for the "non thirst inducing" promise. Don't beleive it and have water handy! Great gift, also (seriously). I would reccomend it.
im happy
