Procare Leg

Procare Leg Elevator

Procare Leg Elevator

This is a great product with one minor flaw. The product is perfect for recovery after a knee surgery. I am post-op a total knee replacement by almost a week. The first three days, before this cushion arrived I was using pillows. It was a mess to keep them comfortable and in place. I purchased this per recommendation of my father who had his knee done earlier this year. The cushion works great in either my recliner or my bed. The only reason I don't give this 5 stars is the material is a bit "clingy". Once your leg is on the cushion there is no moving or adjusting your leg, the cushion won't allow it, it grips to much. I easily remedied the problem by laying a queen sized pillow case over the top of the cushion. The pillow case was almost long enough to cover the entire length and was wide enough that when my leg was on the cushion, it covered the entire width. This made the cushion perfect and allowed me to move and adjust my leg as needed.

This traction style pillow was the key to my excellent healing! Eleven weeks into my recovery from Ankle tendon, spurs and bone surgery and I am still using it daily and nightly. I even learned how (later on) to sleep on my side and keeping my foot elevated. This pillow is 100 times better than trying to stay propped up on several bed pillows. Your leg will stay in place, higher than your heart and not be injured during your sleep. It also holds your ice packs in place.

I also took a photo to my doctor with this item on Amazon and he wrote down the information to start recommending them to his patients!

I recently had two surgeries; the first a partial knee replacement on my right knee for which I did not have the leg rest, and a partial knee replacement plus ACL transplant on the left knee for which I did have the leg rest. I used the traditional pillows and cushion approach for the right knee and the ProCare leg rest for the left knee.

I can absolutely state that the ProCare leg rest significantly reduced swelling and pain. Without the leg rest the edema pooled in my right ankle and calf, hardened and became painful and took substantial time to painfully massage away. With the leg rest on the left knee the edema properly pooled towards the groin where the lymph nodes could dispose of it. The surgery was more extensive on the left knee but the swelling and resulting pain was minimized. Without the leg rest the edema would also pool in the back of the calf and back of the knee which resulted in bruising that meant that it was painful to rest the leg in any position, even on soft pillows. With the leg rest the edema drains from under the calf and knee and it is considerably more comfortable to be in the leg rest for extended periods of time.

By far the best investment I made in the surgery. An absolutely essential part of planning for knee surgery and the one thing to buy for overnight delivery for any leg injury.

The vacuum packing was very convenient since I had to travel for the surgery. If you also travel, bring a belt or rope and roll up the leg rest and compress it a little bit for the return trip.

My daughter had to have surgery on both knees. The first knee was in December and the worst part of it for us was trying to keep her knee at a comfortable and correct elevation. We had to constantly readjust the pillows under her leg and come up with the right combination of pillows under her knee and ankle to get just the right angle. If the elevation was too high it caused her more pain and if it was too low her leg would swell. After dealing with that for several months I decided to go on the hunt for a simpler and more efficient solution. The Procare has been a blessing since she’s had her second surgery. It puts her knee at just the right angle while she’s icing and elevating. She no longer has to wake up frequently to readjust pillows or call us to come retrieve them from the floor. If you are having surgery I highly recommend that you purchase one.

it's a bit bulky, too long, but since it's one size fits all i guess i'm on the smaller end of the spectrum. this absolutely saved me when i broke my ankle. then two surgeries 5 months apart. way easier way of elevating without having to fight with pillows. i spent so much time in bed since i couldn't walk that my back hurt and i had to constantly shift positions. every shift i was fighting with the multiple pillows to get them in a new spot. it was tiring. got this instead. it was pricy but would buy it again in a heartbeat. would give 4.5 stars if i could just bc it's too big.

Description

The ProCare Leg Elevation Foam Support Pillow features a full foam construction that allows you to comfortably elevate and maintain the proper knee and lower leg position at a 45-degree angle. It's ideal for individuals with leg casts, those requiring stable elevation, and also for internal/external rotation control, post-trauma or a surgical procedure. It's constructed of dense, fire retardant foam that prevents compacting. The friction from the foam means the leg elevator won’t slide off the bed, and your leg won't slide off the elevator. Elevating your leg on traditional pillows can be difficult because your leg can roll side-to-side. In addition, traditional pillows can become compacted and flatten out over time, making the elevation less effective. The ProCare Leg Elevation Foam Support Pillow measures 31.5" L x 10" H. One size fits most.

It's not a product you want to love, but following foot surgery it really did help. It elevates your foot at the correct height and provides a nice "channel" for your leg to rest in. Depending on how long you need to elevate your leg or foot, a stack of pillows may be an option for you instead of this purchase, but this product doesn't shift like a pile of pillows and it stays firm enough that it doesn't collapse under your weight. I really found that it was a necessity. It worked great at night too when trying to sleep can be the most uncomfortable. The foam support stays put and so does your leg/foot. No surprises in the morning. Fun fact: It comes in a box that is initially flat and pops up when you open the packaging--something to look forward to in addition to your surgery, right?!

I recently was the proud owner of a serious lower leg fracture and had to go through surgical repair. As you could imagine it was uncomfortable to say the least. Since I am required to keep my leg elevated for much of the day I was relying on pillows to do the job. When I saw this pillow on Amazon I was a bit skeptical given the price, but I ordered it anyway.

When I received the VERY flat box I was dismayed, since it looked like I'd have to assemble something. I was delighted to see that the pillow was in a vacuum pack and immediately expanded to what you see in the display picture.

How does it work? GREAT! I've been using it for a couple of days and I'm very happy with the purchase. I'm a 6' 4", 220 pound male and my lower leg cast is pretty big. Doesn't matter, the pillow's channel is plenty big. I use a towel inside the channel to take care of any sweating, and that's it. I highly recommend the pillow, and as a self-proclaimed whiner I would absolutely tell you if I had any issues!

UPDATE: I've now been using the product for about two weeks and am still very pleased with it. I've noticed that some of the foam around the edges has torn away through normal use, but overall it is performing as expected and is definitely a huge help in the recovery!

Worked well for me after full knee replacement surgery. Anyone with a medical need to elevate their leg will find this very helpful.

When you need something like this there aren't many options other than a stack of pillows. So if you need it get it. But it is just a piece of very inexpensive foam with a wedge removed and a half cylinder cutout for your leg. I suppose the price reflects the niche nature of this product.

The one way that this product could be improved is to have a portion of the section where your leg rests be removable. I have a torn achilles tendon and even slight pressure is felt. For me if there was a piece of the foam that could be removed and replaced as needed would make this an ideal product.

I broke my ankle in 3 places and I bought this pillow to keep my foot elevated. It was the best purchase. At the hospital I just had pillows piled on top of each other which more and lose fluffiness so you have to constantly adjust them. This pillow is perfect for keeping my foot elevated, comfortable and in place.
