As someone who hikes and wears my little one in a carrier on my back or on my chest, something was needed for the summer months to help keep both the baby and myself cool. Someone suggested these towels to me so I bought a couple. Before using them, though, I highly suggest reading up on them, like other reviewers have stated. In really humid heat, they are not nearly as good as dry heat. Unfortunately, where I live the heat is often humid. Because it's generally humid, I am aware that these towels are not working at their full potential.
Humidity or not aside, the towels do have a cooling effect, even in the humidity. It isn't as much of a cooling effect as if it were in a dry heat, but it works. When wearing my daughter, these are great to wrap around my neck to keep me cooled off while she is so close. And because they do not cool off as low as they would in dry heat, they don't hurt my child if she happens to have her body against the towel.
Using the towel is simple. Get it wet, wring out the excess water, snap it a few times and let it cool you down. Simple and easy. You can even use it with your own sweat instead of water if you aren't near water or want to waste drinking water. I have not personally tried this but read that some have and the towel worked just as well.
The towels come in various colors and sizes which is nice, so you are able to find something to your liking and needs. I have three towels in two colors/styles and like both. For myself, the color of my towel was not as important as it working well. For some, however, the look may matter, and it can be fun to change things up depending on what you are wearing.
If you live in a dryer environment this should work as promised. Living in a humid place though, keep in mind, it may not work as well. For myself, this wasn't much of an issue. I still plan on getting more.
I got this product because when I go to the gym I tend to sweat profusely relatively quickly. I wanted a towel I could just wipe my face off with when I ran across this item. Definitely a few takeaways from using it a couple of times:
Pros:
- It does work. You can definitely feel the coldness on the towel after activating it and it helps keep me feeling cool.
- Can also be used to wipe your face off. Though not very absorbant
- Easy to activate, just go to the bathroom and repeat process whenever you feel the effects are wearing off.
- Perfect size to simply lay on your neck while running on the treadmill or using a machine.
- Easy to wash.
Cons:
- Does not last as long as I would like. Maybe 20 min tops and the nice cool feeling doesn't feel as strong anymore. Could also be that I adjusted to the cold temperature but not likely.
- Threading on edge is not sturdy
Reason I would give this a 4 star is because on my first gym session with this towel I activated it 3 times. On the 3rd time as I was snapping the towel (as per the instructions) the threading on the edge came loose. Amazon rectified this issue by sending a replacement and I have yet to have the same issue with the new towel. I will update this review if I have more information to add.
Love this product. I purchased one for each member of my family to wear over the summer. My husband wears it around his neck when riding the ride-on mower on the weekends. I used another for my two-month-old baby while sitting under the umbrella at the beach to keep her cool and also while walking around in her stroller down the boardwalk and she was perfectly comfortable. Only deducted one star because unless you are near a sink or a pool of water, it is a bit difficult to adequately saturate the product so that it works as intended. One time I tried to pour a bottle of water over it to moisten it, but the water just rolled right off. I was able to saturate a small section, but it didn't really keep my daughter cool that way. I had to find a sink to really saturate and ring-out the product for it to work its best. As promised, by removing the product, snapping it a few times, and re-applying, the product becomes cool again.
I spend a lot of time in the summer behind a brush cutter on conservation land. I wasn't convinced these would work but bought a couple anyway. I'm now a believer. I soak one and wring it out and, as instructed every half hour or so I give it a few good snaps which right away brings cooling water to the surface. One of these lasts about two hours before I need to re-wet it from one of my water bottles. I'm not sure if it actually keeps my body temperature down but it does definitely feel cool around my neck and draped over a cotton t-shirt.
This is a must for any athlete that plays in the heat. I got this for my 11 year old son for baseball and football season. Its pretty amazing that all it takes is a little water, a snap and it becomes a lightweight cooling towel. A life saver. My son loves the neon green so we ordered that color and it didn't disappoint. We store it away in the container that is re-useable when done and keep it in his gear bag for whenever he needs it. Great purchase!

It works if you have the room to snap a wet towel which isn’t always the case if you’re at a gym or some other enclosed area. The only way it really activates is to get it wet, wring it and then snap it. Risk getting water flung everywhere. BUT once you do.. it cools very quickly and feels GREAT after a hard workout/activity
I've purchased a couple of these towels for friends and family members. They are great for keeping cool while doing yard work. I usually wet mine and wrap it around my neck when I am outside working in the yard in the summer. When it gets too dry, I just wet it again and get back to work.
I do wrap it around my head sometimes, but it seems to work better on the pulse points on my neck, plus it keeps the sun off my skin.
I live in the desert where temps can reach 115 degrees and the sun feels like it can burn right through your skin. My job requires me to go from inside to outside often throughout the day. AND It's a very dry heat. I used this towel to try to help keep somewhat cooler, if that's possible in the desert heat. The only con that I had was that since we have very little humidity the towel dried out very quickly. However, when it's freshened with cool water again, snapped, and again placed around the neck it provides a nice refreshing coolness. Even though the climate I live in requires that the towel be wet probably more often than normal, the relief it provides makes it worth it.
I'm so glad I had this towel during the last leg of my Ragnar run! It definitely kept me cool in the 105 heat index for a seven-mile run! My only complaint was that I felt it didn't really "keep the cool" on its own--I had to keep dousing it in water. Maybe I didn't perfect the right "snap" move. Also, I mistakenly ordered it thinking there would be some sort of closure so I could wrap it around my head and it would stay there, but I guess that's a different product; this is simply what it states: a towel. My mistake! If you want something that you can secure around your head or neck, look for their other products. I had to stick this under my tank top straps, or try to tie it together in the back. I looked ridiculous in the official Ragnar photos, but at least I was still comfortable and smiling, which is more than I can say for most of the other runners that I saw in the photos--they looked pretty beat. It was definitely worth the money!
I would have given this 5 stars except the peony flower print is only on half the towel! It looks like it doesn't match when you wrap it around your neck because there is 2 different prints on each side of the towel. But still getting 4 stars because it kept me very cool at Disney. I like the summery orange color. I bought in both orange and black, and preferred the orange because it felt cooler. The black towel did not feel as cool, probably because of the darker color.
