Relief Pak 11-1311 Neck Hot Pack, 24"

Relief Pak 11-1311 Neck Hot Pack, 24" Length

Relief Pak 11-1311 Neck Hot Pack, 24

This heating pack is great for a whole-back heat treatment. It holds plenty of heat for a good amount of time to provide relaxation and help with getting blood to flow to the tissues. I found it particularly useful for Heat->Stretch->Ice rehabs for sprained muscle injuries from lifting. Thankfully I have only *had* to use it on a couple of occasions. Otherwise I just use it purely for relaxation.

Dimensions can be seen in the photos I have uploaded.

Included:
-The heat pack
-manual with directions

Pros:
*Provides plenty of heat for 1-2 hours if needed
*Great for relaxation
*Great for minor sprain treatments
*Covers the whole back or neck (depending on model)

Cons:
*Long initial "cook time" due to beads of clay needing to be "melted down" for the first use (-1/2 a star)

Additional Considerations:
Be aware that this is a moist heat pack. So your clothes will most likely get a bit wet when using this. Even with a towel wrapped around. Make sure you use clothing that can take heat and you don't mind getting wet.

Overall: 4.5/5 stars (>=.5 rounds up, <.5 rounds down) => 5 stars

This is a must have product if you have back or joint pain!

Be sure to read ALL instructions before first use!

Basic Care Instructions:
1. Upon receiving item, prior to first use, heat in a pan of water and allow to sit for 2 hours
2. If used daily, keep in water
3. If used 1 or 2 times a week, store in refrigerator
4. If item will not be used weekly, store in freezer

As you can see from the Care Instructions listed above, this item requires a specific care routine to maintain it's maximum effectiveness. Prior to first use, item has regular intervals of pockets that are filled with a dry, absorbent, clay like, material. It takes approximately 2 hours in hot water to allow the pellets to absorb the water and have maximum heat retention.

Once the item has been prepped and used the first time, it will heat and be ready for use quickly.

I purchased this item for home use after completing physical therapy in a medical facility which used similar products. Unlike the medical facility, I do not have a Hydrocollator machine. This is where the basic care instructions above come in, as I use a stovetop method to heat item. I use a tall stainless steel stock pot pan with a lid to heat and store item and leave on the stove top during times that I need daily therapy. If you use daily, heating water to boiling would kill any bacteria or mold that may collect on the item or in water.

As my pain decreased, I only used the item 1 or 2 times a week, during this type of weekly therapy, after use, when item at cooled, I rolled up item and placed in a plastic bag and stored in refrigerator to reduce bacterial or mold growth. When needed, I simply heated again in my stock pan.

Once I no longer needed a minimum of 1X/week, I stored my item in plastic bags but placed in the freezer. Once item has been stored in freezer for a period of time, expect heating time to increase after removing item from freezer for 1st use to ensure item is heated to it's core.

The loops attached to each end make it easy to remove heated product from pan, I use 2 wooden spoons, looping on the spoon handle. I Raise the item, allow excess water to drip of for a few seconds, then place product on a large beach towel I have waiting laid out on counter. I then wrapped the beach towel around product securely.

This is a very absorbent product, once you allow excess water to drip off it does not "leak" out. However to protect surfaces from "steam" moisture, I recommend placing a towel or pillow behind the item. After using product, skin is moist and warm, not wet; it produces a similar effect on surfaces. However, it is not wet.

This item gets VERY HOT and requires appropriated insulated wrap before placing on skin. After I wrap item in towel, I then fold large fluffy bath towels in half and place over the side that will be placed on skin. Normally, I use the beach towel, then three folded bath towels between my skin and the product. I place the wrapped product on a flat pillow against the back of my recliner. Once positioned, I recline and let the heat do it's job. Using this insulated method, I get about 30 minutes of heat time, then i remove 1 of the folded bath towels, and get another 10-15 minutes. Using this method, I get about 45 minutes to 1 hour of therapeutic heat. This is a personal preference and can be adjusted to individual needs.

Overall, this is a great product, especially if you have chronic pain that responds to moist heat. This is also a great product if you use a TENS unit. Apply TENS unit per instructions, then place hydrocollator pack over the TENS pads and increase therapeutic action!

I would recommend this product to anyone experiencing chronic pain which responds to heat! I would not recommend this product to people who are looking for occasional heat therapy, as the basic care instructions would prohibit the best use of the item.

I had a partial knee replacement 4 years ago and used these in therapy. Well just had a whole knee replacement on other knee so bought these and the Chattanooga E-2 Hydroculator, glass I got Relief Pak first, because ones that came with Hydroculator from Chattanooga are stiff and hard, those went in box and stowed. Fortunately I have several sizes of the Relief Paks and they are great. I've been reading reviews and it amazes me how many people can't, won't or don't read directions, sad to give a bad review. I do understand if you don't have a Hydroculator, but I used a rectangular roasting pan with a rack in bottom to t o heat mine til I bought Hydroculator. I used a coffee/espresso temperature thermometer for temp. You don't boil it the first time. You put it in a pan of water, make sure you set something on it to keep it submerged for two hours, then it's ready to heat for its first use. Heating time on stove is about 30 min.

Works great. Moist heat is the solution for my bad back. They are the same Hydroculator pads used physical therapy clinics. Just put it in a large pot of lightly boiling water, wrap in a towel to your comfort level, and unwrap a layer of the towel when it starts to just feel warm. It will feel hot again and retains moist heat well. The blow away a worthless electric heating pad. I have used one most my life since I raced motocross at 13 years old. I’m 57 now and had the same one until I forgot about it on the stove and chared it. Lol. They last that long. I was so thrilled that this one was the same size and quality as my old one. I think it is identical. So if you have deep back, neck, or other joint pain, I highly recommend the moist hot heat solution. Gives me much more comfort than my clinical quality TENS unit. ( non-surgical buldging L5 and ruptured L4 ) Enjoy and a big thank you to the seller !

Great... large enough to cover the lower back area and or shoulders or any part of the body.. Make sure you place a towel or other item that will prevent it from coming in contact with your skin when it is HOT)..Great purchase..

Have had this for about 6 months or so. I keep It in a sealed container of water, it has rotted holes in it. I am so sad because it worked so well.

This is great for moist heat therapy on my aching back. I have used it many times in preparation for physical therapy exercises at home. This heat method really helps loosen up my muscles and relaxes me.

Because water is added, and absorbed into the clay - I keep it in the freezer in a large plastic bag between uses, so that it does not harbor bacteria, etc.

It is working just fine. No problems like others have experienced.
I leave it on the stove and use it most days. If I am not going to use it, it goes in a bag in the frig.

Used on my back and arthritic joints. relieves pain.

Works as described and as I have experienced before. Thanks!
