I ordered one of these for a neighbor after she came home from rehab. She liked it so much, we ordered a second one for her husband. Very sturdy and easy to install -- easier if you have one person to lift the mattress while the other inserts the board. Try-fold feature is nice, as our neighbor can fold-it for easy storage when she's made a full recovery.
I purchased this for my Mother in Law after she broke her shoulder. The therapists at the hospital needed her to be able to care for herself with one arm. I liked this design because it had the additional grab bar that she could use at night to help herself roll over in bed. The design is great, it is not too wide which would be restricting getting in and out of bed. With that said, it is not designed to be used as a safety rail to hold a person in the bed. It makes getting in and out of the bed much easier for her. The price was fantastic and I would highly recommend it for anyone who needs something sturdy to hold onto while getting in & out of bed.
Well do to a rather nasty run of bad luck physically I've found myself confined to a hospital bed pretty much 24X7 for the past year, long story, won't bore ya with the details! So recently I've developed the habit of flinging my left leg over the side of the bed whilst sleeping. At first it wasn't a big issue but after a couple months of this practice it began to really hurt my left knee. So I went trippin' cross da internet in search for the quintessential home remedy to keep my rouge appendage corralled safely in the bed.
So my endeavor to procure the perfect personal physical panacea led me to amazon.com, of course where I found this bed rail system. It looked like it'd be the rats meow and the price was fair so I ordered one and gave it the old nocturnal evaluation and it passed with flying watermelons, a coconut, and two frilled lizards hopped up on heroine!
I found this unit well designed and constructed. This bed rail system feels quite firm and sturdy, not shaky nor wobbly, and gives one a safe and secure feeling. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone in need of assistance with entering/exiting bed. I would also recommend this bed rail system to anyone in a similar situation as I am.
I bought this knowing modifications might be needed to adapt to the location my wife wanted the grab bar and the adjustible top portion of our bed base that raises the head of our bed.
The unit is well made and it was easy to change the hinge folding direction. Just needed a small drill bit to give the screws a way into the dense composite wood. I removed both "wings" and flipped one over then re-attached it on the right side so the grab bar section can rise & lower with the bed. Even without using one of the wings, the bar doesn't easily shift when one leans on it for support. Our heavy mattress is a heavy one, otherwise all 3 sections would probably be needed.
I wasn't sure this was going to work for my husband when I ordered it. He's a giant of a man, over six foot, very robust, and the railing looked a bit frail in comparison. However, after reading the reviews and the Q & A section, I moved ahead with the purchase. This is the second best adaptive port-surgical device I've bought him, and he loves it. He had a 3-level lumbar fusion, and entering / exiting the bed is a massive chore without something solid to grasp; this rail system fits the bill wonderfully. I sincerely doubted it would be sturdy enough, or that the strap around the frame would be sufficient to hold it in place against his wrestling, and I am happy to find myself proven wrong!

I ordered this rail for my queen size bed I had this exact bed bar on my older bed and it lasted 5yrs without any issues, but finally the elastic strap that goes around the mattress stretched to the point of snapping. I liked it enough to reorder a new one when I mover and got a new bed. Here is the catch... I was sent the wrong bed rail they sent me a more expensive bed bar the "Carex Bed Support Rail" I called and was going to exchange it but they told me to keep it and try it out. I found THIS bed rail to be much easier to install and much easier to use without "bar shifting or elastic stretching issues! You cant go wrong with either bed rail I just found my original experience with the above rail difficult to get the elastic around the mattress.
I bought this for my mom who had back surgery . The base of this board is in three hinged panels . When placed on her bed ( which is queen size) with the first "panel" is at the headboard, so the bar ( at the middle panel ) to help her up is right at her elbow so it helps her get up and out without being in her way. It is a lot less stress on her back to get in and out of bed by herself with the aid of this support rail. I put a dimmer switch box for her lamp on her night stand ,close to the bed , because it would be tough to reach the lamp itself to turn it off with the rail in place . This was worth the effort , and she rests much more comfortably and gets up safely .
Purchased for my mother who is suffering from Scoliosis and has a hard time walking and getting up. I went this this version because it uses the mattress only for leverage and I wouldn't have to worry about adjusting. My mom only weighs 120 lbs and this slipped right under her queen mattress between the box spring. It's just 2 pieces and easily snaps together. I didn't even have to use the enclosed strap as my mom is able to get out of bed much easier and the mattress keeps it in place.
As my mom, who was blinded by macular degeneration in her 70's, delved into dementia and then Alzehimer's, being able to assure she could stay in bed overnight and not roll out and have the rail to help get to the potty chair was such an invaluable help. She passed away in 2017 at age 94. Would I buy it again? In a New York MINUTE.
Excellent product. Easy to assemble—2 pieces. The board is substantial and heavy; it folds into thirds and you just fold out. The bar snaps into the already attached base and voila!
My husband is already enjoying this wonderfully helpful bar to get out of bed with a sore back. And the board beneath the mattress has given him relief too! Highly recommend.
