Tailwind Nutrition Endurance Fuel Lemon 30

This stuff is a godsend for electrolyte balance. I'm an avid runner and would regularly get cramps in my legs and abdominal muscles after tough training, and especially races. I've been using this for months now and have had zero cramps! No more waking up in the middle of the night holding my hamstring, or bending over and having an abdominal muscle lock up on me. When I say zero issues I mean zero.
I have cramped after using Gu gels, so Tailwind is definitely doing something better with their mix. I was originally planning on just buying the raw ingredients and making my own endurance fuel, but I don't think I can match this.

It is great fueling for long endurance activities. I use it on ultra runs regularly and will continue to do so.
The reason I gave it 4 versus 5 stars is that it claims to be all the fueling you need but I have found I still need to take in protein and if I mix at the recommended level the salt content makes me retain water to the point my hands and fingers swell. So I use a reduced amount and that addresses the swelling.

I tried some samples at my local running store after reading several recommendations for Tailwind from people on running boards. I don't usually fuel for a half marathon, but knew my marathon would need a different strategy if I was going to make it through 4+ hours of running.

I have been known to have a very sensitive stomach, and on training days and in some half marathons had to find a toilet mid-run. I really did not want that for my first marathon, which was in a state park with alligators and snakes (not a place to drop your drawers).

I completed my first marathon yesterday and I'm happy to report that I did not stop for the bathroom at all! No sick feeling or urge to go! And I didn't hit a wall or "bonk"! I used 8 scoops of the mix with about 20 ounces of water spread over 3 different bottles I carried in my belt and drank regular water at the aid stations. It worked great, didn't make me thirstier, and was sweet enough to satisfy any craving. Out of my samples that I'd tried before (Berry, Tropical Buzz, Mandarin), Mandarin tasted the best and didn't cause any jitters The caffeinated versions have 35mg of caffeine, which is more than the GU I was used to (chocolate outrage has only 20mg).

I over-prepared for this event, not knowing how my body would react to 26 miles, so I was also carrying candy corn (fast sugar) and 4 GUs (chocolate in case I needed a switch-up or the Tailwind proved too much for that distance). Next race I'm ditching the candy and will take just the Tailwind and 2 GUs with me in case I run out of TW because of the heat (I wouldn't want to mix it mid-race!). I am so thrilled with how it worked, and I was thankful that drinking all that liquid and sugar didn't make me have to find the porta-potties or the bushes on the course! No sloshy stomach and no doubling over in pain. I'm a convert! Worth every penny!

I used this for all of my training runs while training for a full marathon in 2017, and use it for long day hikes, mixing it with water for my water bladder in my backpack. It does have a slight taste but I have found it minimal in comparison to other flavors. It is nice to have the fuel in drinkable form. As someone who has a bunch of belly issues, I've been thrilled to have something that does not give me tummy trouble while I'm exercising!

A must have for ultra runners and other endurance athletes. I used to get bad "gut bombs" with gels and other "bars" but this worked wonders. I did a 50K just on this and it rocked for cals and electros....!

I like the Tailwind. It is easy on my stomach; however, it is not enough nutrition for entire athletic event. I have to supplement with GU or some other form of nutrition. I tried competing in an Ironman 70.3 using only Tailwind and it was not enough. I also tried a half marathon and it wasn't enough. I gave it 4 stars because it is good for hydration but not a total solution.

I have been using this product in my 50k training and I don't believe there is a better product on the nutrition side out there. I generally mix 1.5-2 scoops per 20oz bottle of water and for me, in runs greater than 15miles, I can use 1 bottle/hr without fuss. The flavor is very light, which keeps you from getting tired of the taste, and there isn't a sticky residue if spilled.

With this, I have been using it exclusively as my nutrition supplement and it has been perfect at holding the cramps away and keeping the stomach calm.

I have just recently begun using Tailwind as my primary fuel source. I had used it on a couple long training runs (20mi) but finally had the opportunity to test it out last weekend in a longer endurance event. I can say that I ran my first 100K while only using Tailwind as a consistent fuel source and it was great. The weather was quite warm and humid so I did experience some hamstring cramping that started at about 28 miles, but I attribute that to my overall lack of sodium and preparation for the race. Once the leg issues set in I started with the salt tabs (thanks to my buddy) and begun drinking pickle juice at every aid station. I was slow, but able to hang on to the finish. I had no need/desire for my typical gels or other supplements. 2 scoops per 16oz of water every 1hr-1 1/2hrs worked great for me, and was able to finish in 9:55.
On a side note, I received a self written letter and a motivating note on each of the bags of Tailwind upon delivery. A very welcomed personal touch from a company founded by Ultrarunning athletes.
Thank you!

I have been using gels and decided to give this a try. I have used it on several 20+ mile hot and humid trail runs with great success. You don't have to time your intake like with gels and the electrolytes seem to work well. I mixed 2 scoops for every 24 oz of water and the taste was light, slightly sweet, and salty. I did find that after about 2.5 hours I was really craving just water and have started to carry a small bottle of plain water to refresh my mouth. I have had no stomach issues at all, but I have not had any with gels either, so that was never a problem I was trying to solve. Overall I am very satisfied with this product and plan to continue to use it along with other nutrition on long runs and bike rides. So far I have only used pre-mixed refill bottles as my routes usually take me near my car every 5 to 10 miles and I have not tried taking the powder and mixing at other water stops, but it mixes well at home and I expect it would do the same on the go.

I personally have great luck with Tailwind, it agrees with my stomach. I know a lot of times these supplements either agree with you or don’t, so I’d definitely try it in training before putting it to use during a race. I always practice my fueling on my long runs so come race time my stomach is used to it. I shoot for 200 cals/hour of tailwind and some real food on the hour every hour.

I was able to use 1200 calories of tailwind along with some real food to power me through a recent 7 hour race. It’s nice to be able to get your fluid along with calories at the same time.
