I am giving the Thermalon moist heat tie wrap five stars. I needed moist heat for my hip and it delivers. As it is not a typical electric generated heating pad, I didn't have the expectations of it staying hot forever. While it does appear to lose heat before you are wanting it to, a feel of your body will tell you that's where all the heat went. Even if the wrap is no longer hot/warm to the touch, it is still maintaining the heat at the body location. So I leave it in place longer than one might if only going by how the wrap is feeling. As for the tie aspect, I wasn't sure how I'd like not having velcro. Not a problem. The tie works great and it stays in place.
I followed the directions for heating the pad. I placed it on a microwave safe plate, moist side down then folded the ties on top. A minute thirty was way too hot even through my clothing so I knocked it down to a minute. I've included a photo of what it looks like on the plate in the customer photos section. Haven't had any problems with holes or things sticking together.
I have been using these thermalon moist back pads for years and years. I think I need to finally write a review. These are the BEST! I have 15 years of chronic lower back pain (cause:unknown) and I have had shots, physical therapy, accupuncture, other heating pads (you NEED moist heat, even my dad who had a shattered spine (he unfortunately was just diagnosed with osteoperosis and was using a heating pad for relief, which I was not aware of, I immediately set him up with the thermalon Microwave activated moist heat and despite being argumentative towards me (his personality) saying it was going to be the same)
Well, did I surprise him!! He loved the thermalon and said the difference was like night and day. He will no longer use a regular dry heating pad. I explained that I had learned over the years that it was moist heat is what was needed for relief. By the way, I still have the unknown cause for the decades long very bad lower back pain, but now (at 50) I also have spinal stenosis (that I have NO IDEA how that appeared) that is pretty bad in the sense that I wake up some mornings (occasionally) and I can barely walk on one leg, it is tight, I am in severe pain, I cannot put ANY pressure on it, even just to walk slowly. I have to crawl. I even use the thermalon for this also. I heat it up and just place it partially on my back (as I believe that is where the source of the pain is coming from) and the rest of the pad, stretched out on my leg. These are days when I have to go to work!!
That, along with taking pain medication helps to get me going. As an aside, 5 1/2 years ago, I injured my neck doing Yoga (please be very careful, I had had surgery just 7 weeks before) and the doctor said it was ok to take Yoga (slow and careful with instructor knowing I had had a full hysterectomy) but I did the downward dog position, and the next day had a burning in my upper arm so bad, I thought I must have torn a muscle or something. NO, it was the neck I had NOTHING wrong with my neck before this! I was so upset, I got a few herniated discs and moderate stenosis. ugh! one doctor wanted to do surgery. I went to my back doctor and prednisone and rest AND the neck thermalon helped ease the pain.
I was all better in a few weeks. *the unfortunate thing about this neck injury, is that is does act up once in a while, and it seems that each time it does, it seems worse and lasts longer than the time before. This is of great concern to me, I feel I might have to consider surgery in the future. So far, taking pain meds, prednisone, applying Topricin lotion, and using the thermalon neck heated up in the microwave does eventually work. I am grateful for that. Right now for example, my neck feels fine, and I have zero pain, zero discomfort. It makes me so appreciative vs. when my neck is acting up. A neck that hurts and you can hardly move without extreme discomfort really affects your quality of life. It is difficult to work, it is difficult to just do basic tasks! **one important note: I wrote that I use topricin and mentioned using the thermalon neck heating pad. DO NOT USE THESE AT THE SAME TIME. I have read this in many places. Topricin I will use and not use the heat until hours and hours later, if needed.
Once again thermalon FANTASTIC PRODUCT FOR NECK STENOSIS, HERNIATED DISCS and Chronic lower back pain of unknown origin and also stenosis in the lower back!! It does not get RID of the pain, but it provides comfort which when you are in pain is extemely helpful and comforting. I reach for my thermalon moist heat back within minutes (most days) before I even pour my coffee or take my pain medication. If I happen not to see if, I panic a bit. That shows it is helping me!! Thank you Thermalon. Please keep making these. They do help for all of us out here in pain!!
I am pregnant and have crazy lower back pain. I don't want to take pain killers and I can only stretch so much. So I purchased this hoping it could help me. It really has! It is big enough to cover my lower back and get all of the important areas. It is easy to heat up and actually pretty comfortable. It has helped me get sleep which at this point is priceless. My husband used this also after hurting his back while setting up the nursery. Turns out pregnancy can be painful for everyone involved.
I just ordered another one of these because the one I bought four years ago exploded in the microwave. A hole about an inch wide burned through the fabric. But I used it multiple times every single day over the four years and I love it for easing my back or neck pain, especially in the morning.
Update: January 27, 2015 -- a hole just burned through the new one too, letting the millions of tiny heating beads pour all over my kitchen. (I was still finding beads from the first one! You do not want to have this happen, trust me.) I suspect the problem in both of these has been a result of using a microwave without a turntable in it. Both of the fabric failures happened after I moved into an apartment with an older microwave. I think I'll have to buy a microwave turntable before ordering another one of these. Just wanted to put this out there so you can perhaps avoid the same problem.
I have had back "problems" for many years and there are times when I live on a heating pad. With this pad you can tie it on and not feel a prisoner of an electric cord. I use it often and love it. Sometimes I tie the pad on my desk chair and the curvature of the chair helps put the heat right where I need it - in the small of my back.
If I need heat at night I use an electric pad - but all day I use this one and am grateful for some mobility and keep the heat with me.

Description
Designed to allow freedom of movement during treatment. This wrap ties around the back, abdomen, hips, or shoulders for easy application. Fits up to 60 inch waist.
This product works exactly as advertised. It is well made, and provides moist heat for about 30 minutes. Reviewers who say the product is dangerous because of burned material have obviously over-heated the belt. You start at 1.5 minutes in the microwave and then check it. All microwaves are different. I found 1 minute and 40 seconds hot enough. I would not use with a microwave without a turntable unless you stop it and move it often. My doctor recommended moist heat for lower back pain.
So far I really like this moist heat belt. It is easy to heat up, produces good heat that seems to last the 15-minutes I need it for. Sometimes the heating is a bit uneven but that is probably because I don't turn it like I should in the microwave. I have used it for only 2 weeks so I am not sure how it will stand up over repeated heating but so far so good. It works well on the lower middle back and on the shoulder blade area.
I love that this thing does not smell bad like other heating pads. My neighbor loaned me theirs when I sprained my neck. Amazing relief. I bought my own and so glad I did. It covers a nice area and I was able to cover it with a pashmina and wear this in public +/- discretely. Highly recommend. This may be my general Christmas gift to my coworkers this year.
Love this easy to use, quick to heat wraparound heating pad. The wrap makes it easy to wrap on a variety of body parts. Had an old one for a long time before it finally got a hole in it. Endurable product.
Great product, life-saver, truly awesome. Pain is pain and when ANYTHING relieves it, this is gold but... not as big as the picture shows. The pic shows a grown man with the entire lower back covered. It would be great if they extended two inches on either side. Most of the nerves in this area innervate the side of the hips to so if they wanted to have a perfect product, I would change that.
