Not quite what I was expecting, but it works
These items are an absolute godsend.
Last week while doing yardwork, a thorn happened to spear one of my fingers and its tip broke off deep under the skin. I tried everything to get it out... needlepoint tweezers, baking soda paste, etc., but it was so deep in there I just couldn't get it to budge.
I then found these while browsing Amazon and figured they were worth a shot, given all the positive reviews. I was getting tired to not being able to type normally, since the thorn was embedded right on the tip of my finger. Soon after, these splinter removers arrived and I braced myself to get that thing out once and for all. Within minutes, I finally managed to nudge it out of the tiny little wound, where my tweezers could grab a hold and pull it out. Much to my delight, it was quite painless! (though if you're the squeamish type or if the affected area is sore or sensitive, I'd recommend getting a topical anesthetic like lidocaine, which you can also find here at Amazon). These things truly work. I'd absolutely recommend them; toss a few into your first aid kits, purses, wallets, glovebox... anywhere you think you might need something small to free your skin of those annoying millimeter-long invaders.
This product is by far the best splinter removal tool I've come across in my life. I have many different shapes and sizes of tweezers, 'drawing salve', I've tried tape, bandages, potatoes, various needles, glue, hydrogen peroxide, and bacon. None of them hold a candle to the Splinter Out.
It's simply a small metal strip with a well-shaped, low-profile, triangular point on the end. This point is amazing at grabbing on to and sticking in even the tiniest of splinters. If this sounds too similar to a regular old push-pin, I assure you it's not! It can also be used (though I don't think it's 'recommended') to pierce the skin at the embedded end of the splinter (if it's not too deep under the skin), and push it out a bit. This is very useful if your splinter isn't exposed and has worked it's way under the surface of the skin. While I thankfully haven't had a chance to test it on glass splinters, I can say with certainty it works well for wood and metal splinters.
They come sterile and in individual packaging. The ease of use, and the extreme effectiveness of this product, and convenient packaging make this an absolute must for the first-aid kit. They are well priced and irreplaceable. After the first time you use one, you'll wonder how you've gone any portion of your life without having these sitting around!
My 10 year old daughter got a splinter on her right hand at school a few days ago, and I thought to get it out old fashion way - using a needle. After a few tries the old fashion way my daughter refused to let me continue because of the pain. Out of desperation I ordered the "splinter out" hope it arrives before she gets an infection or before we had to see a doctor.
The little box with 20 little needle pins arrived within three days, I had doubts about its effectiveness after opening the package and staring at those needle like pins. Remembering the pain I caused her using old fashion way my daughter won't let me try it, instead she wanted to do it herself using her left hand. I am amazed that after only a few times of scraping without feeling any pain, the splinter jumped out of the soft tissue where it was buried deeply for the past few days!!!
I am speechless and my daughter is so happy and proud of herself! This little product works like a charm just like other amazon reviewers said here!
Best I've ever used. I've used several methods to remove splinters in the past. The deep ones had me sharpening an awl or a small screwdriver to a very sharp point. This Splinter Out is just plain awesome. I keep a few in my wallet, center console of my truck, even a couple in my wife's purse in case I can't find mine, she knows where everything is. It'll get out wood splinters and metal shards. I've even had a shard of fiber optic glass that was clear and couldn't see in my hand that I found with this thing. I will continue purchasing these even if it's to give away to family and friends. The tip is exceptionally sharp and does most of the work even if it's festered up.
Feature Product
- Guaranteed Sterile
- Trip Bevel Designed for Loosening and Pulling Out Splinters
- Great for Home Office Workshop First Aid Kit Tool Box and More
Description
Better than a needle because it is sterile and has a sharp tri-bevel point that is designed for loosening and pulling out splinters. 20 sterile splinter removers per box.
At last, no digging with a needle for surface splinters. Carefully slice the skin above the splinter and use the point to lift out the splinter.
Obviously, don't be an idiot and try this for deep tissue splinters, go to the doctor's--use these for surface splinters.
And also obviously, these are best used for horizontal placed splinters not vertical, those tend to need tweezers for better extraction.
Can use on yourself more than once if disinfected and stored back in box between uses. When it eventually dulls, get a new one out. Due to health risks, DO NOT do this for multiple 'patients', as any bleeding or tissue fluid becomes a hazard--use a new one for each person and toss.
This worked so well on my first time with my daughter's foot (she stepped on a tiny sliver of glass), that I will definitely be buying some more to keep in all our vehicles and home bathroom cabinets and our emergency bag. All I needed was a magnifying glass and one of these splinter outs and the next thing my daughter knew was "your done already" that I had the glass out and she barely felt it. It has a very precise point on the very thin light-weight (aluminum-type) metal pointer that was individually sealed. I just tore it open like I do a band-aide package, pulled the metal splinter remover out of the packaging and went to work pricking at that spot on her foot that had the glass embedded. Since his medipoint splinter remover is so sharp, pointy, large enough to handled (like 2" long by 3/4" wide - I'm just guessing here since I don't have it in front of me) and very light weight, it was so easy & quick to remove the glass out of my daughter's foot. She was a happy camper!!!
This is a great product for removing splinters. I first used Splinter Out at work, this was in the first aid kit. This little tool was very impressive of how well it removes splinters. My coworker also loves this little tool. On weekends, he would do projects around his home and get splinters, especially from metal. He was always coming into work and taking a Splinter Out from the first aid kit. My coworker said this is the best thing he ever used to remove splinters. We both tried purchasing this item from the local CVS, Rite Aid, & Walgreens to keep on hand at home. None of the pharmacy's carried this item and all employees looked at me like I had 3 heads when I asked if they carried Splinter Out. No one heard of this item. Desperate to find this item, I looked on Amazon and found it! I'm so happy I found it on Amazon. This is the best item for removing splinters.
First encountered these in a first aid kit at work. I work in a machine shop so I get a lot of fine metal slivers in my hand. These will pick out a sliver better than any needle. They worked so well I bought a couple of packages and spread several in all my bags, backpacks and first aid kits. I highly recommend them.
PRO: If you use a needle to take out a splinter, then this option is quite valuable. Each splinter removal tool is encased in a sterile package. How many times have you used a needle just laying around for a splinter? The tool seems to have a thinner, sharper end making it easier to get that darn splinter out.
CONS: If you prefer using tweezers to pull out a splinter, then you might not like this process as well.
