RMS 26" Soft-Grip Folding Grabber Reacher with Ergonomic

RMS 26" Soft-Grip Folding Grabber Reacher with Ergonomic Handle

RMS 26

This is not my 1st folding reacher so I knew how to work with it. It does take a bit of practice to learn how to open and fold it, so be patient. What I was wary of was the pistol grip as some reachers that have this same odd shaped pistol grip and are hard to squeeze for an arthritic hand-BUT, with the 'soft' grip I was shocked at how easy this is to grip & use. It also folds up enough to put into my large side pocket in the wheelchair. So I'm very pleased with this reacher. It's for the wheelchair and more like 'just in case' I need it. You can't always pick up a heavy object or use it to pull something BECAUSE of the way it folds & unfolds but use it for picking up things you drop and as long as they aren't heavy, it will stay fully extended. I will probably buy another 1 of these for the travel wheelchair and maybe a spare too.

UPDATE, July 13, 2016: I still like this a lot. So much so, in fact, that I'm back for two more - one for the garage and one to keep in the car. I also keep one in my cubicle at work, where it's picked up everything I've asked it to, including things like a pretzel or a dime from the carpeted floor (yes, a dime! from carpet!).

So far I haven't had any of the problems some others have reported here of the device coming apart when picking up heavy things, but I haven't asked it to pick anything heavier (at home) than a remote control, a cell phone, or a leather sneaker, none of which were any problem at all.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: After recent back surgery, I was told not to bend over, and was given a grabber/picker-upper when I was released from the hospital's rehab. I quickly realized I needed more than one, so came looking here at Amazon and found this item. It's almost exactly the same item except that this one folds up which helps keep it out of the way and unobtrusive until it's needed. I prefer this style to the one with two suction cups - it just seems to be stronger and more versatile. I also prefer the shorter legth (26") which is less awkward than the 30-32" ones. I even use this to take the clothes out of the dryer, something I couldn't otherwise do for myself while my back heals.

This handy little device was just as advertised and am pleased I can just can just fold it up and pop it in my kitchen junk drawer for handy retrieval when needed. It's reach is sufficient to snag things from my highest shelf and sturdy enough to bring down a can without dropping it on my head, and long enough to reach the floor. Sadly, it is too short for some things. It won't reach to the back corner of the refrigerator. But I'm good with it otherwise.

Got blue handled "Grabber tool, Housolution..." + this "RMS 26" Soft-GripTM Folding Grabber Reacher...".
This bluish handle grabber needed about double the force to open/close vs this yellowish RMS grabber. Big deal for us since I wanted kids to use these (when cleaning up parks/streets etc). Also less convient for adults, but doable. Though I noticed/felt the extra strength needed.
I returned the blue handled one, and kept this yellow RMS folding grabber.
The perfect folding was also a major plus for convenience.

FYI I felt just bending down and picking up whatever was less work than maneuvering either grabber :-) both grabbers took a few attempts to pick up small stuff, like small toys, paper, etc. which are the main category of things that need to be picked up for us!

As I carry a reacher with me on my walker, this particular design helps me in two ways that others don't. First, I like to carry a reacher on a hook attached to my walker (I purchased the large plastic hooks from Amazon.) This is the only reacher I can find where the handle is curved enough to stay on the hook. Second, the folding feature allows me to put one in my basket so when I drop my main one, I can use the folded reacher to retrieve the dropped one.

This is the best invention... It's much better than the other folding one I bought when they had said this one was no longer available.. I found the other one faulty and returned it, and then ordered this one.. I now have two in case one breaks.. I use it many times a day! It even picks up better than a non folding one..

It seems sturdier than some I've had. It's strong enough to pick up a sneaker from the floor.
UPDATE: This has been a GREAT purchase. I didn't care about folding it up but its really handy being able to take it with me. It's even able to open my dresser drawers and get clothes while I'm on the bed. Even after I'm able to walk again I think I'll have plenty of uses for this.

This grabber works fine. It is different from several of the others shown that work differently.
Others have a position that is supposed to hold it closed, but they get sticky and hard to open and close.
This one reacts to pressure, opens and closing in a snap.

Had a bad fall, fractured my patella, femur and hip...when I came home from rehab I was using a walker and only 50% weight bearing on my fractured leg which meant I use a walker 24/7. I have a 36 inch reacher but was difficult to manage with my walker. I found this and am so happy I bought it. It folds up nicely so I can carry it with me in the basket of the walker. I'm able to gather my laundry from the hamper when my neighbor does my wash. I'm able to grab most items in the fridge, bring them to a place on the shelf I can grab with my hand. I'm even able to straighten throw rugs and pick up small pieces of lint between vacuuming. Makes life so much easier for me. Definitely recommend this product.

I keep this in my car - when i go surfing i pick up the trash around my car.
Only thing i didn't like was the tip came a little bent - it still works but didn't like that.
I like the fact that it folds so it doesn't take a lot of space. I also got a bio-degradable garbage bags and keep them handy as well.
