First of all, let me start by throwing my qualifications out there. I am terminally ill and LITERALLY in a fight for my life. I, at present, take 34 medications, of every shape and size you can imagine. I've gone through the gamut of more than a dozen pill splitters. Most worked, though to varying degrees of success. Some require you to change the pill form to cut different meds. Some don't have protection guards over the razor. Some don't close shut so the pill will drop into the pill box. This does ALL of those things, and at a better price than most. PLUS, it's sturdy. If your hands shake, like mine do, and you drop this, it'll be fine. (And the pill will stay in the box, since the lid closes down over it as you cut it. There is NO NEED to change pill forms or razors. The unique wedge design will fit ANY pill as you push it up between the edges. And it cuts like a dream. (Just used it to cut my evening meds, and it did them all in about 2 minutes.) Bottom line, I've tried nearly all of them, and this is the one that gets my 5 star vote. Choose this one over the others, and you won't regret it.

Let me start off by saying that no pill splitter is perfect. There are a lot of bad reviews but I realize a lot of people are not replacing their pill splitter over time. Every pill splitter has a razor type device. If you use the blade over and over without replacement it's going to get dull and crush your pills. You replace your razor for your face or it gets dull.
This is a pretty inexpensive pill splitter and honestly I did not have high hopes. However, I have been very pleasantly surprised. I have one pill that I have to half each week. So, I do all 14 halves on Sunday night.
I was shocked that it gave me pretty perfect halves and NO MUTILATION or crushing of the pills.
I also tested this on some very tiny pills and other pills that I need to start but I am severely med phobic ( basically that means I'm scared of trying a medication that I have never taken before. )
But the pill splitter I'm able to cut them down into tiny pieces so that I can see how they work before I take a full dose.

If you need to split any Type of pills… Even the smallest I would definitely suggest this very economical pill splitter. Why pay tons of money to crush your pills or get uneven pieces. With the cost you can replace it every few months and have a fresh blade.

I needed to split a 90-day supply of pills, so I picked this guy up.
BUILD QUALITY: The splitter is very solid. The seat for the pill is a rubber-like material which grips the pill so it doesn't slide around when you cut. The top part doesn't rack at all and the plastic is thick and feels sturdy.
SAFETY: There is a protective plastic sheet which slides over the razor when open and slides back down when closed. I really liked that it's almost impossible to directly access the blade.
USE: Most of the time, the split pill halves will stay in the little "seat" (the blue part) until you do something with them. For me, about 1 in 5 cuts, one or both of the halves would come shooting out the end. I dealt with it by using one hand to close and complete the cut, and the other hand to cover the end in case something shot out. If that didn't happen, this product would be 5 stars.
I take a lot of vitamins and medications and this thing is perfect for cutting my pills in half. I bought this one for my mom ... She had trouble using it at first, the trick is to push your pill back as far as it will go, grasp the back sides of the plastic and then forcefully close it. She was going really slow which crushed a lot of the pill. You gotta be quick with it.
I bought this pill splitter to cut a pentagon shaped pill in half since that's not something I'm able to do with my fingers. It cut the first one in half pretty well, but several pills after that were a mess until I got the hang of it. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be a good way to stabilize a 5-sided pill in this holder. The plastic holding the pill in place is flimsy and moveable and It wiggles around if too much time is taken when pulling the handle down. When placing your pill in the holder, be sure the cutter will hit it in the appropriate place by watching through the window and pulling the lever down slowly to see where the blade hits it. Then pull the lever up again and come down quickly. The pills I cut are thicker in the middle than the outside edges so the blade must come down quickly from it's highest position or else the pill splits into a powdery mess. Once I got the hang of it, the pills split perfectly.

After seeing all the wishy washy reviews of pill splitters on Amazon, I was really nervous about ordering one. But, it’s such a simple item, and I’ve owned two before. My biggest complaint was that… I misplaced them. So I took a chance and ordered the Apex Ultra Pill Splitter. It is the nicest one I’ve used yet. The pill I need to split is not scored, which really worried me because I was afraid it would shatter and I would be left with a lot of powder and very little useable medicine. On the contrary, it split easily; very little pressure needed to be applied. I can do a few and the splitter box holds them until I am done. You can see exactly where the blade is going to hit, so you can readjust before you split.
As long as I don’t misplace this one, I am a happy buyer!
This is the Apex Pill Splitter I bought and yes, it broke after a few months. The blade finally loosened up and wouldn't stay straight anymore. (See picture.) I still give it 4 stars because I broke every other pill splitter I bought too and at least this one worked very well while it lasted. I like the "rubbery" surface for the pill so it doesn't slip which helps when cutting small pills. It also has a shield at the top which keeps the cut pieces from flying over the place. The reality is that it only costs $5.00 so I guess you get what you pay for. I'm pretty hard on the device too as I cut several pills a day like calcium and magnesium so this might last longer with softer pills.
I couldn't be happier with this product. I was skeptical because it wasn't expensive and therefore thought it might be cheaply made but... it's AWESOME! Made well, gets the pills cut evenly every time, even if the pill isn't scored and it's easy to do. It takes very little pressure and placing the pill is simple because the blue portion is rubberized so the pill doesn't move around. I was able to cut all these pills in under 2 minutes (see picture). Well worth the purchase!
My Rx is for one 25mg pill twice each day (one morning, one at bedtime). Unfortunately this pill has been unavailable in 25mg for several months, so my Dr prescribed a 50mg (easily available) cut in half. I tried it with a sharp steak knife but lost some of the medicine as it crumbled. This product, the Apex Ultra Pill Splitter, is exactly what I need! It’s simple to use, cuts pills cleanly, and works on pills of any reasonable size. I give this 5 stars!
Since my knife+cutting board trick was no longer cutting it, I did what I do best. I turn to Amazon to fix all my problems. Seriously, everyone needs a pill cutter. It's impossible to not crush them when you cut them with regular knives, even the best fillet knife is going to crush and waste it. Not to mention your dosage is off when you can't cut it evenly. This has a really cool thumb grip spot which I hadn't seen in other cutters that made it a lot easier even if you are trying to cut a bigger pill. It's compact so it's not going to take up space in your cabinet but it's to so small it's easily lost.
