Zippo Emergency Fire Starter, Orange

Zippo Emergency Fire Starter, Orange Plastic

Zippo Emergency Fire Starter, Orange Plastic

I keep the few Tinder Sticks inside the Zippo for true emergency, and use very different tinder sticks... now, don't laugh, I really mean it, and it's an old trick -- I use tampons...
The advantages of tampons are that they come individually sealed against moisture and they're larger than the Zippo Tinder Sticks, so they are always dry, and make a larger flame.
They're used the same way - opened, spread and partly fluffed. To make a tampon burn longer, a little bit of Vaseline on the spread-open tampon helps it maintain the initial flame, and makes it burn much longer.
I tried the Zippo Tinder Sticks a few times, just to make sure they work. Each time, a single one was enough to light a Solo Stove Titan.

This fire starter is compact and durable, ignites sparks every time. The tricky factor is that you have to hold either your tinder at an awkward angle or the fire starter so that the sparks can connect. Unlike stick style strikers, it may take many lighter-style strikes to get enough sparks on your tinder. I suspect some smokers who are used to using cigarette lighters will have an easier time with this. We find that we prefer the stick-shaped fire starters.

The product case is cheap, Zippo makes a different version that looks to be made a little better. This one is in no way waterproof. With that being said these are really pretty easy to use for starting a fire, just read and follow the directions. I cut each of the starters in half, then peel the wax back like the peel on a banana. Once you have the cotton core exposed pull it gently apart and fluff it up in the center. Aim the sparks from the striker toward the "fluffed" cotton. It takes a few strikes usually but it does ignite and should have no problem starting a properly assembled fire. The starter sticks are just cotton dipped in a hot wax which is an old trick for a portable semi waterproof fire starter.

This is a great little product, It provides a great spark, we will be taking this anytime we are out and about camping, hiking, or driving in the mountains.

Practice with one until so you know how to use it in an actual emergency.

As expected

I haven't used it yet but the flint made sparks enough that I'm sure if I held something flammable close to it, it would catch fire. Well packaged, clear instructions.

Great product, shipped quick and not a complaint at all I love it when companies produce quality products today, would do business with again NO QUESTIONS!

Great item to have for emergency light weight and takes up very little space

Neato device. Small size, light weight, clicks firmly closed, effective spark, 4 spark-to-flame starters inside, works well.
