Hot to Go Reusable Heat Packs - Buy 4 Get 4 Free!

Love the idea, great invention. But the first time I used them (I bought them for my grandmother who has bad circulation in her hands and feet) one of the circular hand warmers is leaking. How do I go about getting a replacement? I really want to love these, but it should not be defective right out of the box- especially a reuseable product?!

UPDATE: the vendor contacted me immediately and sent a repalcement product after my last review. The person I dealt with was courteous and professional and the new product I received does not leak. Despite my initial issues with the product, I would definitely order from this company again

I love this type of hand warmer. All the brands selling these under different names--they all pretty much do the same thing, you just have to know a few things before you buy:
- Portable, no batteries, no extra parts.
- Click the little metal washer floating in the contained liquid and watch the handwarmer turn solid and emit heat.
- They put out about 30 minutes of heat. 15 minutes of that heat is hot, the other 15 is warm. Need more heat? Pack more.
- Reusable! They need to be boiled to be reset. I put mine in a thin cloth bag in a pan filled with water over the stove top til the water boils for five minutes. Make sure all the crystals are completely liquified and that there's no cloudiness.
- They can last for a couple years if you treat them well. This means never storing them for too long in the activated/solid state. Keeping in the liquid state is best.
- On very cold days I throw four of these in my work bag and use them as needed at the office for targeted back heat. Really helps.
- The circular ones might fit in a winter glove if you have medium to large hands. The rectangular ones are large and won't fit as well. Better for large jacket pockets. Neither will fit in a boot or shoe.
- Shop around to find a brand/size that you like. These work great. I sometimes prefer the smaller rectangle ones sold by other vendors just because they're more portable for travel (airplanes, work bag, etc).

These worked great for walking the dog on a cold morning because I have Raynauds Syndrome. Since they keep their heat for at least 40-60 minutes inside my mittens I didn't have a problem with my finger tips turning white. Glad they can be reused and not just a throw-away item.

My lil girl rides the bus and was constantly complaining about being cold in the mornings. I now snap 2 of these for her to keep in her coat pockets on the ride... She says they keep her belly and hands really warm, and she loves them! :) There were 2 that didn't click right away, but they were just a little harder to get started. After I got them the first time, they became easier. Because this is an 8pk, I'm going to keep a few in the car in case of emergencies.

These are also great for when I get tension headaches. I snap 2, one for each side of my neck, and lay on them (with a towel at first because they do get HOT). They really loosen up the muscles to ease my head.

My fiance delivers linens and rugs. He constantly complains about his left shoulder stiffening up and in pain. Heat helps tremendously, but heating pads just can't wrap around right, and he doesn't want to spend all evening stuck on the couch hooked up to a cord.... So I snap 3-4, place them in a few spots and use an ace wrap to keep them in place. Now he can get his treatment while playing with our daughter.

Everyone is happy with these!!!!! They are actually bigger than I expected too.

I have bought similar items (different manufacturers) and what I really liked about these, over the others, is how these ones tend to stay in soft stage after the dissolving process. (some other ones would firm back up after the boiling process). I would definitely buy this set again. This worked great for the purpose that I had in mind.

Update: Have had this set for some time. Have not had any issues/leaking etc. As far as the other reviews for it not lasting long I have two comments 1) they are small. How long would you expect them to stay warm? And, in my teachings, You are not supposed to use heat or cold for more than 20 minutes any way. They continue to live up to my expectations. I recommend.

These were pretty much what I expected them to be. Used them for the first time this morning on a 17F (felt like 8 with the wind chill) bike commute. I started them when I left (they warm up very quickly, as opposed to chemical hand warmers) and kept them in my mittens right over the tops of my fingers/hands. I would say they were "very warm" when I started, and "acceptably" warm when I arrived at work half an hour later. Without handwarmers a day like today would have meant fingers balled up in my mittens and still very cold by the time I got to work.

These are bulky, and when they crystalize they become quite firm (to the point where squeezing a brake lever takes some thought and effort). Not ideal for riding a bike, but on a day that feels like 8 degrees, I'll do what I have to.

Don't expect these to last much longer than 30 minutes, but if that's what you need, you don't mind the bulk, and you want something that's reusable, these are probably a really good option for you!

Worked well when it still worked. After just two days of owning these, one burst as you can see in the image.

**UPDATE**
Hot to Go sent me replacements as well as extras after I reported this to them. The new ones all work fine. One thing to note- after prolonged and repeated use, the coins get more sensitive and sometimes accidentally trigger in my pocket.

After all the negative feedback I was a little worried about this purchase however, I am so happy with my purchase! One was already crystallized when I got it. The disc is a little hard to pop but they all popped. (I didn't try it on the already crystallized one.). I boiled them as directed and they all turned back to gel. They are a little smaller than I thought but they still are awesome! I have a small hand but took picture for size comparison.

Did a simple test using the large rectangle heat pack @ 67F to see how long they would last. The first 10min they put out plenty of heat and were quite warm. After 15min the temperature had dropped noticeably. Still "warm", but unless your hands/whatever are already reasonably warm, it no longer has enough heat to warm you up. At 20min it's only a feels a degree or two warmer then ambient and need to be "recharged" by boiling in water.

With these packs, the colder the temperature is, the shorter they will last, so unless you're using these in a small confined area (like a pocket), you should expect this to be a "best case". If you're using this to keep warm a larger area (I was hoping to use it to keep telescope eye pieces in a Pelican case warm to stave off dew) you're probably going to be a bit disappointed.

So I had experienced a leak on one of the packs I had received from H2G, and left a negative review as to what I saw to be the inferior quality of the product.

I'm happy to report that the customer service team at H2G reached out to me and replaced my entire set. I'll continue to use this product and update again if I experience an issue, but I am happy to see a company stand behind their product the way H2G has.
