Pure Enrichment PureRelief Neck and Shoulder Heating Pad (Charcoal Gray) - Fast-Heating Technology with Magnetic Neck Closure, 4 Heat Settings, Moist Heat Therapy Option and Convenient Storage Bag

I got the PureRelief Neck & Shoulder Heating Pad because I don't have a lot of patience with back massage devices but I have trouble with anxiety and tend to carry a lot of tension in my body when I am stressed. I also have a tendency to get "hurts-all-over" sore when I'm hungover, sleep-deprived, or sick.

I hoped this heating pad would help relax my mental and physical tension, and boy does it ever. I've always enjoyed using an old-fashioned hot water bottle for the same purpose, but even though I appreciate its old world charm, a water bottle is a lot putzier to get ready, and it's harder to apply the correct temperature to the correct area. So let's discuss why this heating pad is such a game-changer.

1. What are the pros and cons of this particular heating pad?

>> Feel <<

The heating pad is 14" x 22" which is large enough to curl soothingly around your neck and shoulders, without being so large as to become heavy and bulky. It has weighted magnetized edges to encourage it to stay in place and I find the weight adds to the comforting feeling.

I haven't had any problems with it sliding around, in the context of sitting at a desk working or on a couch relaxing. It is flexible enough to contour to your body, in fact, once you've used it a few times, the weights tend to settle in a way that accommodates your body and how it needs to hang for you. The first time I used it, I wasn't overwhelmed by how well it fit me, but after taking the time to make sure I had it positioned right, and using it that way a few times, it became more and more comfortable.

Don't forget that even though it's designed to hang around your shoulders, you can just as easily drape it across your lap like a blanket. It's really got a lot more functionality than just shoulder stress.

The fabric is very soft, and although it is two-tone for extra style, the same nice fabric is used top and bottom.

>> Functionality <<

There is a simple control switch that hangs at the perfect length so you can grab it easily, but it isn't hanging against your body being a nuisance. Basically at arm's reach. It has 4 settings - from warm to high. I find that medium is about as high as I want it, and low is often a good temperature, but high might be more appropriate if you like a lot of heat intensity or are wearing more clothes. It reaches its goal temperature within a handful of seconds and turns off automatically after 2 hours.

It can also be used for moist heat therapy, which is even more effective because it provides deeper penetration of the tissue and elicits a stronger response from temperature receptors. It also has a more rapid effect on the tissue. You can do moist heat therapy simply by dampening one side of the heating pad (e.g. misting it with a spray bottle, or patting it with a damp cloth.)

Amazingly (to me, anyway), this pad is fully machine washable on the gentle cycle, and can even be put in the dryer on low. Technology is amazing.

It also comes with a storage bag, and it has a super small profile once it's all rolled up and packed away, so you don't have to worry about it taking up valuable space in your cupboard (as though you're ever going to put this baby away...)

2. Why Heat Therapy?

It's obvious that heat therapy has an immediate psycho-physiological soothing, comforting effect. Even grasping a hot mug of tea helps me feel less anxious and physically "tensed," but I was uncertain what "science says" about the effectiveness of heating pad devices.

So here's the skinny for fellow-noobs.

The kinds of pain that are most likely to benefit from heat are:

1. soreness from over-exertion
2. osteoarthritis, muscle knots, and cramping
3. "hurts-all-over" pain, caused by various medical conditions, drug side-effects, vitamin D deficiency, and sleep deprivation

It's most effective to use heating pads for 20 minutes, with a 20 minute break, rinse and repeat 3-4 times.

It's NOT good to use heat therapy on an injury with inflammation... that's when you use ice.

3. In Summary.

We live in a stressful world. You should have as many tricks up your sleeve as possible to deal with it. This is a great one.

From an injury to soft tissues in my neck, I suffer from chronic stiff neck and resulting shoulder pain. The pain and discomfort are exasperated by sitting at my desk all day long. What helps is getting regular massages and hot tubing. In between those times I have used an electric heating pad and, honestly, I was not a fan, although the heat helps, as the pad does not contour around my neck (a clip has to be used to secure the ends together so that it wraps around my neck), the material is stiff and uncomfortable, and the power cord is not long enough to allow me to continue to work at my desk and enjoy the heating elements of the pad.

For those reasons, I gave the PureRelief Neck & Shoulder Heading Pad a try. I am glad I did! It has completely changed and blew my mind. Not only does it wrap securely around my neck and shoulder (which the old heading pad was not large enough to cover) by a magnetic feature, it is made of a very soft, and therefore flexible, material that perfectly shapes and melts onto the neck and shoulder areas, providing the necessary contour. The pad is quick to heat. In fact, I feel it within seconds of turning it on. After two hours of continuous use, it automatically shuts off to prevent burns! I mostly use it directly on the skin (laying it on top of a tank top I am wearing) and I have not had an issue with it being too hot on the Medium setting, for me at least. The High setting, however, is a bit too much on bare skin so I use it with a shirt in between my skin and the device.

Furthermore, the pad is washable, per the instruction on the pad and the Operating Manual. I haven’t had to wash it yet but it has a five year warranty so I am not worried.

In sum, I am totally loving the PureRelief Neck & Shoulder heating pad.

This is a well made heating pad and it fits securely around my shoulders. It has a high neck on it that is heated through out. The fabric is soft and thick enough that you don't feel the wires through it. It has a very long cord which is very continent.

First of all, not sure what level of hot other reviewers are expecting, but it gets pretty damn hot. I usually set it on the hottest level and then after about 10 minutes turn it down a notch, I can't take it too much after that. So yeah, it's hot enough for me. I also love that the magnets at the front edge stick together so it stays put around my neck. Sure, it didn't smell so great brand new, so I hand washed it, hung it dry, freshened it up in the dryer--bye bye chemical smell. People, it's a heating pad for your sore/stiff/frozen neck that is shaped for the spot and works great. The price is decent and for what it is, a great buy in my opinion.

I purchased the PureRelief Neck & Shoulder Heating Pad to help provide relief for my sore muscles due to a previous whiplash injury as well as Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ). This product has been a lifesaver!

The product has 4 heat settings to deliver the right amount of heat for problematic areas. Although the flap to cover the neck does not have the heating element, the 14" x 22" product is flexible enough to contour to work for neck pain or even other areas of the body without using a bulkier product.

The heating pad is covered in a soft plush fabric suitable for any age. There is a magnetic closure in the front to prevent the product from slipping off my shoulders as I type on the computer or do other tasks. There is a cloth bag provided with the product for easy storage.

Although I continue to receive massage and chiropractic treatments regularly; heat therapy has helped ease pains between appointments. The PureRelief Neck & Shoulder Heating Pad has helped relieve stress and discomfort (even from bad sleeping patterns)! I highly recommend this product to anyone who has neck and shoulder pain who needs a more portable product than a large heating blanket.

Let me start by saying how much my husband loves this product! He said this was the best purchase he ever made for his neck and shoulder pain.

My husband has been suffering from a stiff neck and shoulder for many years due to some old injuries and twice of neck surgeries. The stiffness and pain get worse when he does yard work or fixes things around the house using heavy tools. When that happenes, he gets on his massage chair and then puts a heating pad around his neck...the heating pad is flat, so he wraps a towel around to secure it, but still doesn't stay in place.

We thought there has to be something for this! We searched for a heating pad specifically made for neck and shoulders and we met PureRelief Neck&Shoulder Heating Pad. There were many other neck and shoulder hearting pads out there, but we liked the design of PureRelief and based on the good reviews from others, we decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! My husband said it wraps around his neck perfectly without having to hold it and heats the places he needs the most. It drapes over his shoulders nicely almost like it was made for him! He said it heats up right away and the long cord is a plus too when he wants to use in bed. The material is so soft and also machine washable!

If you are like my husband and using a regular hearting pad for your neck, just give this product a try! You won't regret it (•ө•)♡

I do a lot of research before I purchase, so you will rarely see a bad review from me...the items I don't review are because it is not the quality of the actual product that has dismayed me, but rather the fact that they never arrived, were delayed by weeks, months, etc, or were incorrectly fulfilled. This has only happened when shipped by smaller businesses, who seem to have shipping issues.
However, everything about the PureRelief Neck & Shoulder Heating Pad is rated 5 stars. It provides almost instant gratification. Designed to rest comfortably on your shoulder, upper back and neck area, without slipping, it is comfortable and large enough to cover the affected areas. My husband has arthritis in these areas, and after seeing him experience intense pain, I bought this for a Christmas gift....and it helps to significantly ease the pain. I actually used it when an older pad by another maker, was not helping at all with a massive headache. I pulled out the PureRelief pad and it was better able to cover the area, in a comfortable, soothing way.
With several heat settings, an automatic turn-off after 2 hours, a sturdy cord and connectors, it is evident that the product is well made... The cover of the pad is covered in a very comfortable to the touch material and the heat from the pad is evenly distributed...no hot spots or flimsy pad. The pad itself has a 5 year warranty and the company seems very service oriented. Recommended without reservations.

Truly wish I had found this years ago.. how did I ever manage before!? Well, I wore out a quit a few of those extra long heat pads is how!

I have been dealing with chronic Lyme and Fibromyalgia for many years. When it's flaring I need FULL spinal heat. This combined with my extra long heating pad is just the relief I've been looking for! No more unraviled cords from constantly tugging because the heat is not evenly sourced.

It is made of the sofest material and feels so good snuggled up around my neck. The entire unit heats up and heat distribution is even throughout. You can even machine wash this pad, which I would give an extra star for alone if I could!

There is a magnetic closure in the front that on first try found difficult to locate and secure. It is rather small, yet strong and perfectly placed (right where you would think it should pinch together ;) Some have made complaints about it, but I have not had any problems and feel that if the magnet was any bigger it would be invasive.

As someone else had mentioned, this makes for a great lap/tummy wrap also.

This is my unbiased opinion and would definitely recommend and/or buy again!

I have cervical stenosis, two bone fusions and a titanium plate in my neck supporting three vertebrae that were removed. I was attracted to this item because it supposedly wrapped around my shoulders and also provided comfort for my neck. The problem is is that I am a very large man. I am 6'6" 375 with broad shoulders and a thick neck. The heating pad will not sit properly on my shoulders and neck and i needed to return it to purchase something. I have had it less than a week and tried to return it but was denied by Amazon and the Seller. I didnt see anything written when I purchased the item that said it couldnt be returned. Now I am stuck with a heating pad that doesnt do what it says it will. At least not with me it doesnt.......THIS WAS A ONE STAR REVIEW INITIALLY.....SEE RESPONSE FROM COMPANY AND MY FOLLOWUP TO UNDERSTAND WHY I CHANGED FROM ONE STAR TO FIVE......GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE

It could be a little bigger and a little heavier, but I still LOVE it. I use it to relieve and fend off certain headaches and it works like a dream. The whole edge is weighted with bead-like things which creates a tough rim, but it doesn't bother me when I when sitting in my recliner, or even when laying in bed. I have worn it under a jacket and that worked nicely. I love how hot it gets, and the part that goes up the neck is heated too. I saw a comment that said it cools off after about 15 min, which is true, but it heats up again really quickly. I think it just cycles a little bit like any thermostat. There is fairly strong a scent upon opening the package. I haven't washed it yet but I don't smell it anymore unless I stick my nose up to it. My SO says it smells terrible though, which is weird because I'm usually the one with a super sensitive nose.
