Great for shoulders! I bought this for post shoulder surgery relief. After using this type at physical therapy I decided to get one for home. I use it several times a day and love it. It gets very cold and lasts a for about an hour. (Obviously it gets warmer toward the end) It lasts plenty of time to really cool the entire shoulder down to the joint and provides great relief. It is heavy so it molds to the shape of your shoulder, the arched area provides good coverage. I just lay it on a kitchen towel, fold it over and use. It's Very cold at first but not enough to do any tissue damage. (Obviously towel thickness will determine this)
I like this one better than the brand they use at PT as it seems to stay colder and is thicker than theirs.
Shoulder surgery is hard, recovery takes a long, long time. The ice machine is great but not always practical for daily use after a couple months. This ice pack will bridge that gap and is built well, works well and priced well.
It does come with some kind of "stuff" on it from the manufacturer but I just washed mine in dish soap and that took it off. It did smell a little for the first few times but that does go away. It wasn't a big deal, only mention it in case someone opens it up and worries about the smell. Wash it and use it; it will go away.
After shoulder surgery, I bought a different brand of ice pack at Walmart. It was their most expensive, so I thought it must be one of the best. What a mistake. Once frozen, it came out like a hard board that you could fold in half. It would cause pain to the already sore area because it was too hard. The part that was folded was of no use because it didn't touch the skin. Moreover, the pack wouldn't stay in place unless you held it with your other arm. Quite useless. I looked for a replacement after paying attention to the ice pack used by my physical therapist and found this. My PT used a different brand but it looked and felt just like this Tru-care model.
I like that this pack can be chilled in either the refrigerator or freezer. My preference was to take it out of the freezer just before I started my shoulder exercises, so it would soften up a little by the time I applied it, making it easier to conform to the contours of my shoulder. That said, I usually forgot to take it out beforehand; it was not too hard to be used directly out of the freezer and could still be molded. Because of the shape, it sat nicely on my shoulder (without having to hold it) while I was watching tv or pc, eating, etc. and wouldn't fall off unless I made an abrupt movement. Overall, it did everything I was looking for in an ice pack at a reasonable price.
I have a general intolerance of heat so I use a lot of ice packs. I had this one in my cart for a while, hesitating to buy yet another ice pack. I liked that it was a nice large size and medical grade, so with summer fast (actually slow, this year!) approaching I decided to go ahead and make the purchase. And I can unequivocally say that this is the absolute best ice pack I have ever purchased!!! And it came at the perfect time. Yesterday, I fell and bruised my hip. I had a small ice pack close by and used it till it got warm-all of 30 minutes. I remembered this recent purchase that I had placed in the downstairs freezer when it arrived a few days ago. Actually I was surprised at how cold the pack was right out of the box. When my friend came home, I had him get it for me. I said it was navy, he said it was black-??! I put it in a towel and placed it on my hip, and within seconds felt the coolness coming through. Most of my other packs are not cold enough to penetrate a towel (so I find something thinner or place directly). It felt so good that I went off to sleep for a few hours. When I awoke, the ice pack was no longer frozen, but, and this is the BEST part, it is still so cold to touch at room temp, just like when I first took it out of the box!! I took away the towel and placed it directly on my hip and got more time out of it! It has been about an hour and I still feel the cold of the ice pack helping to ease the pain. It is very pliable, even when frozen so you can bend it around however you need it. I would highly recommend this ice pack to any and all! I am thinking about buying another to help with my heat intolerance. My upper body feels like it is on fire, so I am splitting the time with this pack beteen the two issues. I am super amazed at how wonderful this ice pack works, especially at room temp. Yep, I am buying another!M
I purchased this size to accommodate ankle swelling due to a recent broken foot and ankle injury. At first I was purchasing some smaller ice packs made for ankles, but those didn't wrap as nicely as the ones that my physical therapist was using on me after my workouts. I found out she preferred these larger wraps that are made for the neck and shoulder because they easily wrap around the ankle with plenty of icy cold getting to all the necessary areas of both ankle and foot. I also purchased a stretchy band that helps keep ice packs in place. The ice pack seems sturdy enough, freezes quickly, and stays icy cold for more than an hour. It's always going back into the freezer after I'm done with icing, which is well before it's totally thawed out. It is a little stiff when first out of the freezer (like most wraps), but within minutes, it's just right for wrapping in place. I tuck it into a pillowcase before using it, so my skin is protected. I am happy with this purchase.
This is the best ice pack I have EVER had. It stays cold for a long time. I've pulled it from the freezer, laid it down on the counter and 45 minutes later it's still ice cold. I don't have a clue how they do it but this thing is awesome. I had a torn ligament in my knee and was using cheaper over the counter ice packs. At my physical therapist's office they were using these Tru-Care packs. I was immediately sold. It wraps around my leg effortlessly. I wouldn't recommend any other ice pack.

My husband had knee replacement surgery. I ordered these because they use this brand at his doctors PT. I ordered 4 so he would always have a cold one in the freezer. They have really helped with the pain and swelling. They also can be used later for a heat packs. They can be heated. They are larger and thicker than you can buy at a drug store. He is on week 4 and still using them.
I have been experiencing chronic neck pain for a long time, recently my Physical Therapist recommended that I purchase a cervical ice pack to help with the inflammation. After reviewing available cold packs I decided on the Tru-Care and must say that I am totally pleased with my purchase. The ice pack is very flexible, and very very cold, and I am able to secure the pack to my particular locations of maximum pain thereby receiving maximum benefit. I have experienced no problems with the ice pack and would recommend it to anyone suffering neck pain.
I purchased this product about 6 years ago and absolutely love it! Love it so much I ordered another to have on hand. I notice that the new one I received was not made from the same durable and heavy outer material that my original one was made from. This was disappointing however, still is the best hot/cold pack I have ever used/seen.
Love this ice pack. Does not get stiff when frozen. Can form to your body easily.
My only complaint is the material it is made of seems thin however I have not had any issues with it so far.
Nice ice pack, feels substantial, gets rechilled fast. my wife is about to have shoulder surgery she says its better than those cheap ice packs that are filling up my ice cube bucket.
