I didn't know these "old school" style ice bags were still being sold until I found one in my local supermarket. I was using the "thera pearl" brand ice packs which are designed to wrap around an area of your body with a velcro strap, but it doesn't stay cold as long as this product. However, a few words of caution. Despite the fact that in the description it says " leak-proof soft fabric" the outer layer of fabric does become wet, possibly due to condensation from ice that forms around the inner lining. So I bought a second done here on Amazon (sold by a third party, fulfilled by Amazon) to use while the other one "dries out." Also, if you are using this to place behind your head on a pillow, water does leak out through the lid. I woke up with water on my pillow and pajamas. Not all the water leaks out but it does become leaky if you press your head against it while lying down on a pillow. Another thing to keep in mind is the type of ice you use in it. If you buy crushed ice, it will melt into water almost right away, so its really important to buy premium chunky ice that will melt slowly. Also, the design that arrived was different from the design I ordered and the packaging came in terrible condition. All of these issues are related to the manufacturer and Amazon fulfillment services, not the seller.
I have had this product for several years and love the small size. Had recent knee surgery and it fits perfectly on the are that I need. I gave my original ice bag to my mother who had dental surgery and she loves it also, not too big like the regular size ice bag in stores and so much better than a zip lock bag that leaks even when you put one bag inside of a 2nd bag with ice.
This is my second one. The first one start to leak, but it did take a few years and likely 20 or so uses!
So cute, and the perfect size for small boo-boos.......
