These are awesome! This large size is the best all around size in our opinion and experiences with the different ones - the smaller one would be better for a neck however. My husband is a retired chiropractor and this is the pac he always recommended to patients when using warm heat. Just be sure to follow the instructions and not over heat them, as the heat builds over several minutes after microwaving. These last quite awhile, and when they get hard or lumpy they are inexpensive enough to easily replace them. Very happy to find them on Amazon!
If you need a cold pad, these are the only way you should spend your hard-earned money. They are a bit more expensive than the typical gel-filled variety, but,- *Oh Mama,* what a difference. They freeze in about an hour, but always remain flexible. The get good and cold, but never "burning cold" like other products. They mold to your body, and release their cold gradually- over about an hour. I know all about "twenty minutes on- twenty minutes off"- but sometimes there is no way you can take that pad away from me. The pain relief is just too good!
I can't say enough good things about this hot-cold pack, and cannot recommend it highly enough over the others out there. It is a smart way to spend your money. Your payback is in the comfort and longevity of the Thermipaq. When you find yourself in trouble like I am now, you will be very glad that you took my advice! ( *comment courtesy of B.Dylan)
I love this clay hot and cold pack. It heats up quickly in the microwave and maintains heat for a long time. I had to experiment a bit with heating in the microwave to get the temperatures I wanted. The trick is to heat it up in small amounts and let is sit for a minute for the heat to distribute and then check it. It heats up so quickly, that you can throw it back in the microwave. This works well in the freezer as well (note: it will take the shape of how you freeze it...lay it flat). My only complaint is that the plastic bag gets a crease if it is folded or bent too much. I have never had a tear, but I worry about it sometimes. The bag with straps is good if you aren't moving. Don't expect to have it on the right spot on your back and then walk around with it staying in place.
These are the best for ice or heat. I have three of the 9.5 x 16 packs and some smaller ones. I've messed up my shoulder--still looking for relief 2 months later. While I'm waiting for the doctors to sort it out, I'm dealing with the pain. These packs are the ones I look for when I'm getting ice. When my wife gets ice for me I ask for "the good ones." She knows I'm asking for the Thermipaq Hot Cold Packs.
Ordered the wrong size but this size is really good for warming an area of bed or for anyone with a lower back problem. Regarding 9.5x16" pad, directions for heating only heat pad to a low temperature. I have increased time in my 1300 watt microwave to 1 minute 30 seconds. May shorten life of pad but I can live with that. This size is probably too large to keep in your freezer. We keep 2 of the smaller pads in the freezer for occassional use.

Yeah, effective and durable. The clay molds well to your body.
Make sure you understand how large this thing is (9.5x16) - it's really large! For use on my lower back, I usually fold it in half.
Oh yeah, about putting it directly against your skin - bad idea - it will freeze your skin solid. But the case that comes with it prevents any of the cold from getting to you. I just do it through my shirt. The item would be better if the case were less insulating.
My husband had one of these from years ago, but I overheated the old one and it needed replacing. He uses this regularly for sore muscles so I'm glad I could find this replacement for him. He's happy, so I'm happy!
We have been purchasing these for about 15 years now, different vendors, it is really a good product; improvements could be made as far as the Velcro fasteners, the pack lasts way longer than the Velcro attachments work! Otherwise good product.
We ordered the wrong size; make sure you double check. We've used this brand for years and its always been awesome frozen or heated. Warm it up slowly or it will burst! Just ask my husband, lol!
Terrific pad. We keep one frozen and one to heat. Velcro straps hold well for knee or other awkward areas. Ours are both holding up extremely well with much use.
