Smittybilt 769541 First Aid Storage

Smittybilt 769541 First Aid Storage Bag

So I first thought the item I was buying was OD Green, as it is in the picture. But I began reading the reviews and discovered that it was actually black. I came to the conclusion that I could live with a black first aid kit -- no problem. I just needed it to hold my first aid supplies for my jeep wrangler. When it came, I was extremely happy.

As a Firefighter/EMT, it's able to do SO much. Let me describe the way it actually looks:

It's a smittybuilt black tri-fold bag with various straps and buckles on the back end. It has a 2"x2" velcro attached patch that reads "First Aid" underneath a red cross (The cross is not as prominent as it is in the picture). There is one main zipper that holds the compartment together. Inside, theres room for a CPR mask, glow sticks, shears, 2 boxes of bandages, and a mesh compartment for other items.

The exterior of the bag itself is made of a (2) piece attachment; the main piece is the bag itself, and the second piece is a heavy velcro that allows me to post it onto my jeeps roll cage. The velcro piece has straps that fits snug on the cage while allowing for removal of the first aid kit for quick deployment. (Shoot me an email and I can send you photos). You simply grap the top handle of the bag and unclip it with your right hand -- then tear it away from the roll cage. And it secures back just as easy.

I have shown it to a few others at the station I work at, and they're putting their orders in to get this thing.

So, in summary, If you're expecting to get the Green First Aid kit, that's not going to happen.

If you're hoping to get a rockin' black first aid kit that has many uses, you wont be disappointed.

I really like this case, but I had to cut off the straps that hold them on the rollbar and replace them with ladderlock straps weaved through the molle webbing on back. I couldn't get the straps where I wanted them and tight enough with the default location. I put the two straps together and weaved them through the molle as well for a third point of contact. All this required me to turn it 90 degrees, but the way it hooks on with both velcro and a securing strap has proved to be more than secure enough to hold it in that orientation

With that change everything fits where I want.

The bag itself is very well designed, though some planning is needed when you start filling it. As mentioned by other posters, it doesn't come with any contents, but I knew that before I ordered it.

Finally the fact that the red cross emblem is velcro allowed me to turn it 90 degrees to accommodate my strap mod and make it look as if it was supposed to be that way all along.

As I outfit my Jeep, space is a consideration.
I normally keep a FA kit in my cars - as they have always come in handy - even when not out in the wilderness.

The bag seems to be built very well - and has a lot of elastic "slots" to insert things - but I didn't use most of those - I used the pockets and zippered section primarily stuffing an assortment of FA material in.

It is important to note - just in case it is not clear from the description - that this is just the bag - and does not include any FA supplies.

The obvious place for the FA Kit is on one of the rear roll bars, facing backwards, but I've discovered that that this position interferes with the roof.
Moving it so that it faces in could be uncomfortable (or distracting) for people sitting in the back - not a big deal, but a consideration.

In the end you could buy any container; fill it with FA stuff and strap/bungee it to a roll bar - but it wouldn't look as cool or as finished.

Honestly, for the price it should have come with some basic FA supplies - or just been a little cheaper. And as such that's why it gets 4 Stars and not 5.

I was expecting, perhaps, something a little more capacious. This won't hold more than a boo-boo kit, unless you pack it expertly. For my limited skills, it's just the ticket.

The whole backing straps onto your rollbar, with all kinds of straps and buckles as options. The storage bag itself sticks to that mount via hook-and-loop. This makes it easy to rip off and go, should the need arise.

I mostly leave it in place, open it, let it unfurl to reveal all the pockets, and take what I need in non-urgent situations. The Red Cross patch is removable if you don't want to draw attention to it.

Fits perfectly on the rear rollbar of the Jeep, effectively taking no room at all. For that, it's well worth the cost.

Great accessory for my Jeep. Keeps the first aid kit very visible and within reach to anyone who needs it. Product seems durable, though the quality isn't as high as other MOLLE bags I own. Has standard vertical MOLLE attachments as well as horizontal velcro straps for attaching to the rollbar/whatever. The attachment point has a large velcro patch on the front so you can grab and peel away the bag very quickly. The large velcro patch isn't rigid, so it tends to wrap around the rollbar, but the added strap over the top means the bag isn't going anywhere. I was able to fit nearly an entire Cintas® Deluxe First Aid Kit inside, plenty of room for all your basic first aid items.

Description

This First Aid storage bag consists of several individual pouches to store you first aid essentials. Attaches to the roll bars in 3 locations. Can be stored in a easy access location for emergency needs.

I do agree with previous reviews that is bag is on the small side, it does hold quite a bit of stuff despite its size. The one I received looks just like the one in the picture and it appears to be constructed very well.

A little mounting tip for 2007+ jeep Wrangler owners. I mounted my first aid kit on the inside of the rear tailgate. I mounted it on the black plastic vent cover that is on the inside of the tailgate itself. You can simply grab the vent cover and wiggle it off the Jeep, and then mount the bag holder to the vent and then reattach the vent to the tailgate.

An important note about the bag itself that you may not notice right away: The bag appears to be one piece, however you can actually remove the bag from the back plate. This makes mounting easier because you can just mount the back plate and then attach the bag to it. The bag is held to the back plate via velcro.

Love this for my Jeep! Going out on weekend hiking trips I felt I should have something more to pull from as opposed to what I keep in my backpack.
I purchased a separate first aid kit to fill it and an very happy with it. As with other reviewers, it was smaller than I expected. My biggest complaint is that it does not tighten up around the roll bars as well as expected. Need to find a work around to get it to tighten up more. Will have to work on that one.

I drive a '13 Wrangler. To trail ride many clubs require you to have a few basic items; tow strap, first aid kit and fire extinguisher. If you're like me and like to do everything yourself, including assemble your own first aid kit, this is for you.

Exterior:

Plenty of options for attaching this to the vehicle. I personally used the velcro and strapped it to a roll bar. The MOLLE is useful if you swing that way and the quick rip velcro backing is awesome. All of the nylon materials seem to be top quality same for the zippers. Have not had any zipper snag or similar issues when deploying.

Interior:

Plenty of straps, sleeves and pouches for a decent first aid kit. Large enough to hold one of the 50g Quickclots, 5" shears, misc. bandages, wraps and pads. There is also a handy third pouch with a mesh top and a solid synthetic backing that lays out when you open it all the way up. Very convenient for single serving meds, antiseptic wipes etc. Even enough room left over for a pocket CPR mask and airway tool.

All in all a great bag, I've only had to go to it twice for minor first aid but it is reassuring to know it holds enough gear to get a competent person through that golden first hour of a moderate health emergency.

I purchased this bag as a gift for my father, who happens to be an avid "Jeeper." I felt this would prove to be a great idea after experiencing a couple off-road trips that always seemed to result in a few minor scrapes and cuts, resulting in that hurried search for the first aid kit buried in another random bag. He was ecstatic and actually enjoyed the task of transitioning his first aid supplies to this new bag. We haven't had any reason to test it yet, but it was easily installed on the rollcage of his Jeep. Should the need every arise for basic medical supplies he will be able to quickly and easily retrieve whatever is necessary. No digging required.

Really wasn't sure what to expect. We were really impressed with the amount of space, pockets, and set up of interior. We purchased a large supplemental first aid kit from Amazon t o at least get some supplies in. Everything fit and there was extra room. The first aid symbol is velcro attached. We're planning on getting another one of these to go on the other side of our Jeep's roll cage to hold sunscreen, chapstick, lotion, bug spray etc. The velcro is strong but the tear away feature makes it the perfect compliment for our adventures. If an emergency happens everything is in one convenient pack that is easy to grab by its handle and get to the emergency site.the multiple pocket interior also makes organizing the inside easy.
