I'd like to take a few minutes to review this product because doing so may help someone else in their decision-making process. This is a serious product niche. I purchased this to accommodate my wife's post surgical need to access our bed. Although I had made numerous accommodations for my wife's return home, I overlooked the importance of having a secure hand rail. It became immediately obvious that without a railing she would be hampered, if not jeopardized in her back surgery recovery. I spent the extra money for one-day shipping and have no regrets. Now, a brief review on the product:
We have a split Cal King on an adjustable frame. The installation was straightforward. First, I rolled the head of her mattress toward the foot, next, I placed the assembled railing directly on the frame above the hinge where the head adjusts, then I used the included strap to secure the railing in place. After letting the mattress flop into its normal position it was all set. My wife gave it a crucial test and was immediately pleased to have a secure hand rail that she could rely upon. It is very sturdy, manufactured well, highly adjustable, and simple to assemble. Superior in every aspect to a hospital bed railing. So much so that my wife's confidence in regaining her independence made an instant comeback. So very important! As a bonus, the included nightlight works well. I set it on "auto" and it lights when it detects motion or proximity of my wife's hand as she reaches for water on her nightstand. The rubberized grip is comfortable, and seems as if it will last a long while. I highly recommend anyone looking for a bed rail give this product serious consideration.
I ordered this for my 96-year-old Mother who has severe osteoarthritis. I had just put a memory foam topper on her bed to help with pressure points and wanted to give her an unobtrusive means of support getting out of bed. I love the size of this rail and the LED light really sold me. I installed it almost the moment it arrived yesterday and crossed my fingers for her approval. She was delighted!! She said it didn't look like a "hospital bed rail!" which is what she had feared. This morning, she told me it had given her a new sense of security, especially in the middle of the night when she got up to use the bathroom, and the LED light was the perfect amount of illumination in her room. Needless to say, I am ecstatic because I have been worrying over which product to order and whether she would accept it...all the while fearing she may fall while I was evaluating! SO...for anyone who is in the same quandry...just do yourself a favor and order this one! You will sleep better and so will your loved one! (Not to mention, more safely! 😊) Update 3/1/18: Ordering one for myself!! I sleep with two little dogs who burrow in the covers...getting up in the middle of the night to use the restroom is dangerous to all involved! Lol! This is a perfect solution with the handrail and the light! :) So happy I discovered this!!!
We recently moved my elderly father in with us and purchased the LumaRail-FS Bed Assist Rail to help him get out of bed. I chose this particular one because I STILL have a waterbed frame with a mattress insert. I needed a bed rail that didn't have support legs reaching the floor. This was perfect, it tucks under the mattress and sits against the side board! My dad has had years of chronic back pain from four back surgeries and wakes up everyday with so much pain in his lower back. With the bed rail, he is able to lift himself into an upright position with some effort and uses the top of the rail to get out of bed into a standing position. Before the bed rail, I would have to help my dad sit up and get out of bed. This is one of the best purchases I've made for him so far. I'm so glad I found it!
This rail is very sturdy. It has height adjustment of 5 holes for about 4.5 inches. At highest it stands 18". The padding is very comfortable, and the light is an added bonus. My husband has Parkinsons, and getting in and out of bed is sometimes quite an ordeal. This support bar is very sturdy and wider than one I bought previously for our Texas home. It is also very well padded for extra comfort. We didn't want legs on this rail, as it is used with an adjustable bed. It is perfect and provides help and ensures me of his safety of not rolling out of bed.
I recently purchased this bed assist rail for my frail father. It was very
easy to assemble and install. I am very impressed with the quality, the rail
is extremely solid and the padded grip really helps. The best part is the

right times to allow dad to safely visit the washroom the many times per

Needed a strong, stable bed rail for my wife, who is recovering from cancer in the hips, so she can leverage herself up from the lying position in bed. This product provides a stable hand hold for her, with no shifting, giving her confidence that the unit will stay in place. It was easy to install, and to adjust. Works great (soft cover makes it comfortable and not cold to grab). Lightweight box I could carry upstairs by myself. Needs two people to get the strap tied off, however (I could not lift the mattress and box spring by myself). Very easy to put together quickly using the instructions. Very sturdy rail. We have not installed the light as we do not need it.
I was looking for a bed assistive rail that would help someone who is becoming more frail and has balance problems and has fallen twice in the last month attempting to get out of bed to go to the bathroom at night. I researched the various assistive bed rail devices carried by amazon.com and selected this one since it seemed to be more stable than other similar products. This assistive bed rail device is engineered well and very easy to assemble; the tubing that is inserted into the larger opening tubing fits perfectly and locks into place; the height above the mattress of the hand grab bar is adjustable; there is no leg which has to rest on the floor, the U-shaped support bar tubing extends approx 2/3 of the way across a double bed between the mattress and box spring increasing the stability of the assistive device and this device comes with a safety strap that other brands do not include with the product. Following the instructions that come with the device, mount and anchor the rail to the bed by:
1. Have the person lie down in bed to check where the rail needs to be placed for the person to use comfortably. Move the mattress toward the foot of the bed to allow the U-shaped tubing to be placed and secured between the mattress and box springs.
2. At the head of the bed. place the padded grab bar where the person will be able to use it to pull up into a sitting position and then return to lying down (e.g. start the grab bar approx. at the level of the shoulder when lying down in bed and suggest you situate the tubing for the grab bar 2"--3" from the edge of the mattress to allow sheets or pads to be tucked under the mattress and removed without the rail getting in the way.
3. Place the U-shaped tubing on top of the inner springs and then loop the security strap around the center of the closed end of the U-shaped tubing and anchor the strap around the entire metal bed frame forming a continuous loop and snapped shut and locked close to the hand rail.
4. Tighten the loop so that the anchor strap is tight with no play in it.
5. Lift the mattress up and return to the correct position over the box springs.
6. Test the hand rail for correct position and stability and adjust the height of the grab bar above the mattress if needed.
This bed assist rail makes all the difference in enabling the individual to pull up to a sitting position and then to get back into bed; it's a wonderful safety device and I recommend it highly. The rail was a total success and contributed to the person's feeling of security and ease in getting in and out of bed.
The bed assist rail also comes with a LED light that uses a sensor to turn the light on and that you mount onto the bed rail. Rather than mount this automatic light to the rail, I am using night lights that plug into wall outlets in the bedroom and bathroom to provide sufficient lighting for safely getting in and out of bed at night.
We have just given this to my mom and it seems like it will work well for her. She has a poster bed that has no box spring and this fits easily under the mattress and feels quite secure. A bit disappointed as I chose the more expensive option due to the LED sensor night light which I though would help significantly as she tends to wake up during the night. However, the motion sensor does not work at all. Great bed rail, but unfortunately, can't rely on sensor light.
