I am in a power wheelchair --- I literally have bought at least one of these for each room in my house AND at work You "squeeze" the handle and it requires almost no strength to operate it. (you need what strength you have to **lift** the item you pick up). I have picked up pencils, and I have even picked up individual pills I have dropped on the ground!! -- the question of short or long is not simple, honestly -- there are times I have to use the shorter reacher because of space limitations (in other words -- the shorter one is perfect for picking something up off the ground when I'm in my chair -- the longer one is TOO long to pick up something "close" to my chair (when space may dictate that I can't move further away to pick it up).
I have a couple of bigger reachers (jaws that fit around bigger/heavier items) but mostly I hate them because they require a LOT of hand-strength to just lift the danged things much less pick up something heavy (so I have them for those things). But for everyday stuff? These light reachers rock. My mobility is limited enough where I use one to hold my slacks on the right to get my right foot inside to put them on -- THAT needs the longer reacher. But to get something right next to me off the floor at my desk? I need the shorter one.
HINT for anyone with someone handicapped in their family. Most folks just think of these for reaching a high cupboard -- but if you have a loved-one living in a wheelchair -- you need one of these in EVERY room. The only thing that would make them more perfect is if the handle had a hole in them to put a string thru so you could hang them up. I usually make a string loop and tie it to the claw end (the other end being heavier) and I have little Command Hooks so I can hang the reacher up and have it be THERE next time I need it.
A most useful inexpensive by effective reacher that I use daily. It is ideal for an elderly person, especially one who is living alone. I bought the short one so that I could retrieve things from the far end of my table and dropped items on the floor. It also helps me to get dressed in the morning. I bought 2 others and gave them to elderly friends who love them. floorsomeone living alone who is
I’m short and someone decided a tall person should live in my house... this has made my life easier when come to getting things off top shelf or some branches to high in garden..., has proven very useful n lasted me months now no issue
I don't do many reviews, but I love this grabber! I ordered this while handicapped by a disabled foot. I had a longer one, but it was unwieldy and this shorter one is great! Unlike my longer grabber, this one picks up both tiny and large items and has been a blessing during my period of physical limitation. I'm replacing a long one with the longer version of this one because of its greater "grabbing" ability.
I am disabled in a wheelchair, and I now have three of this product, placed all over the house. Easy to squeeze and hold. I use this mainly to pick up stuff I drop. I can actually pick up dropped pills with it. I can even scratch behind my dogs ears, and play with the cat. I love it.

This one works for me. Just by far because it's very light weight compared to all the others I've tried and the way you grip it is totally different and is good for smaller hands or arthritic hands I've seen them into length long for the average person and one for people in chairs the shorter. It has a magnet on the handle also so I can pick up paper clips or tacks Staples. The only negative thing is it's hard at picking something up that's very heavy the other type is better for that the item
The length of this reaches floor without bending. My only issue is the tongs are lighter plastic and can't handle real heavy item nor does it lock in place. I really like this one and it sits right by my bedside so when things fall of the nightstand I can get them with no problem since surgery. I can also lift high items too. Great purchase. Be sure to get the long length one.
I bought this one because I'm always misplacing the one just like it I got from the hospital when I had surgery a few years ago. It's the same quality as the other one, and really does a great job at picking things up. If you have mobility issues or arm/shoulder issues I'd highly recommend this grabber. The rubber on the tips really makes for a good grip on whatever you are picking up-- even coins, pieces of paper, and assorted debris/dust bunnies on the floor.
I'm 5'2 and grabbing those small items in the washer often required me stepping on a stool while balancing myself so I don't fall. This grabber works perfect for me to grab those small towels and socks without going through those steps. It's light weight and has a tight grip --- love it!
Yes, I am getting older. But I bought this, not because of my age or mobility, but because I can't reach to the bottom of my new washing machine! Note to self - try that out before you buy your next machine. I need this to grab those pesky socks and such that stick to the bottom of the machine. It works great. Will buy another if this one wears out. So far, so good.
