LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!! I cannot say enough good things about this. It is literally a lifesaver for me.
This tool is for manual muscle releases but it's something that you can now do to yourself. I use it mainly for occipital and trapezius releases but you could probably use it anywhere. I have to warn you...it's very uncomfortable to do but you feel SOOOOOO much better afterwards. I usually lay on it anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours (depending on how I'm feeling). I literally do not go anywhere without it.
It has 2 different surfaces (I like the rounded one the best) and you simply just lay on it so the edges are pushing into the muscle and then try to relax the rest of your body so your body weight is the pressure that causes the release. again...it's uncomfortable but totally worth it.
I struggle with migraines that have been diagnosed at "atypical" and while they rarely include nausea (thankfully) I pretty much always have neck pain and tightness. I've gotten MRIs and CT but so far the doctor's don't know if the neck soreness causes the migraine or migraine causes the neck pain. I was searching for something to help relieve my tension and stumbled upon the DaVinci tool. I am in sports medicine and loved it so much I bought one for each of our facilities. Now I have many athletes that love it also.
If you have neck pain/tension and/or migraines...GET ONE! I cannot say enough good things about this. It has literally saved my life.
This thing is a lifesaver. Since my first one in 2009, I've bought 3. They always get given away to someone who needs it more. Works great to relieve neck pain and neck-related headaches (I just lay my neck on it while resting on my back- loosens and stretches my neck- I can even get it to do some traction, though I don't know if that's what it's supposed to be used for. The rubbery material sticks well to the floor) . It also works on lower back pain, Sciatica, and foot pain from wearing heels. I don't have any special tricks except to lie right on it/relax onto it till it gets the spot. For feet I'll put som lotion or oil on my feet & just slide them back and forth on it. The original Davinci tools were bigger, but the new smaller version works just as well and is easy to throw in a purse. Such a useful little invention.
I also got their big, cane- looking tool with the nubs and ball shaped end, after someone brought one to weekend retreat. That thing is no joke- it's a little bulky, so I just kept it in my office for my friends and colleagues- great to work out knots while catching up on emails, reading, doing paperwork or taking a break. Everyone knew where it was kept and there was no shortage of borrowers! I believe they make a more compact version now. If not, it's still worth every penny.
I purchased this item because I had gotten to the point I would try anything. I had a sharp, miserable, stabbing pain at the base of my skull on the right side. It was not always there but when it came it stayed for weeks. I had an MRI, a CAT scan, a painkiller injection, a nerve block shot, and I was given painkillers and muscle relaxers. No one could ever give me a reason, and nothing worked for more than a few days at most. I ordered this tool and was amazed. I laid on it for as long as I could (this thing hurts). After just a few minutes the pain eased off. I cannot tell you how it works, but it does. Find the side that you can stand and let it dig into the problem area as long as you can. This procedure seems to release the nerve or muscle that is causing the pain. I am not a doctor and have described this in laymans terms. To put it simply, it works.
I've only had this two weeks, but I'm impressed. I pretty much always have a headache from the time I wake up, I also grind my teeth and clench my jaw. I feel like this tool is really helping. It's been three days with no headache and I feel like I'm clenching my jaw less. At first, I didn't notice much. It felt good while I was using it and relieved my pain for 20-30 minutes. But after using it consistently for a 5-10 minutes a day, I'm really feeling much better. It feels great wedged under my shoulder blades too.
This product is just what I needed. My chiropractor recommended I search for a similar product and after seeing the price and reading some of the reviews of this one, I crossed my fingers and purchased. So far I have used it on the base of my head, as well as along my neck and shoulders. I was wary about the "soft" version but it does provide enough support to allow for acupressure where I place it and feels intense but is not painful or unforgiving. It's definitely decreased my headaches and I've made other people in my family test it out too!

Aid & Treat:
So when I first received this I almost returned it because quite frankly I couldn't figure out how to use it but after a few trys I found the two points to work wonderfully for tension headaches at the base of the skull and my newest discovery was this thing can crack your back!!! I don't know about you but the middle of my shoulders is the worst and difficult to crack. I found by laying on this using different sides to get just the right pressure I could crack all the way up my back by slidding it up and rocking slowing back on it! Now to me it is the best tool ever because if I went to a chiropractor every time my back was hurting I'd be broke. !
Give it try and don't get discouraged it really does take some practice to figure out the angles .
This device is intended to get at deep knots and therefore doesn't feel good most of the time. You need to understand that it is attempting to release tissue that has become stuck and that process just hurts. The results are worth it. It is best to add a little towel or something in the beginning to add padding that will help ease you into feel of this device. I am dealing with issues from a fractured neck and as part of my physical therapy, this device was used and my therapist encouraged me to have one for home use.
I am a Licensed Massage Practitioner and love what this tool is capable of. This tool allows the user to determine where pressure is needed and how much. I especially appreciate the ability this tool has for reducing tension headaches in most folks. I've experienced more effective positive change with this tool because it is more firm than its counterparts. However, be honest with yourself and don't push yourself to the point of pain. I've purchased this for multiple friends who have expressed a need to be free from headaches/tension in the neck, but it can be used throughout the body.
My husband introduced me to this tool back when we were dating. He always uses it for neck pain which I never understood when I tried it how he suggested but one day I had a headache and used it higher up on my neck at the base of my skull and the pressure immediately helped ease the pain. It's not a cure for me and I still have to take pain killers but until those kick in this is a great aid for temporary relief.
Excellent tool for reaching deep knots using self-massage! Be careful and work into using it though, I ended up giving myself some wicked bruises which hurt more than the knots for a few days..but after they cleared up, I have been pain free and had much improved range of motion for going on a month now ( I expected to have to use it daily or at least weekly, like a foam roller, but this seemed to have a longer-lasting effect, due to its reaching the deeper fascia I think).
Highly recommend the product, just use with caution/be more gentle than you think you need to be the first few times using it until you get used to how much body weight you can use on it without bruising yourself.. or maybe the bruising is part of healing process, I am not sure! Either way, in my opinion it was worth the 2-3 days of discomfort immediately following use, to have remained problem free for a month in an area that usually gives me constant trouble/pain!
