Bought this because it has absolutely no additives, just hydrolyzed whey. I'm pretty sensitive to dairy so I had hoped that the hydrolyzed whey would not trigger this - seems to be fine - I have not noticed any ill effects. It dissolves quickly in juice and tastes ok (as long as I use juice). I'm pretty satisfied with this and would recommend it to anyone looking to avoid all the artificial flavors in other brands.
This protein is exactly what your body needs after a harsh and muscle abusing workout :-).
I've been on an intense plan, and to make it through I had to upgrade the quality of my post weights protein.
This protein is digested quickly to allow the muscles stop breaking.....
Taste is fine to me, little bit on the milk side. But honestly, I was never one of those cookies, marshmallow, or banana flavored proteins for a few reasons:
1. I like my protein as clean as possible (no sugar or substitutes).
2. No fillers.
3. No ingredient that takes more than 2 seconds to pronounce.
4. I want something to get the job done, quickly, instead of something that tastes good. Similar to alcohol, if I want to drink and get in a good mood I'll go for single malt, not for a wine box ....
Bulk supplements always has the best price for supplements. Powder form usually is the most economical option but you have to deal with the taste. Whey protein isolate has a very mild, agreeable flavor. However the process of hydrolyzation, while breaking down the protein to make it more available to your body, also affects the flavor. The taste is somewhat disagreeable but you can mask it by mixing it with a flavored beverage. Or you mix it with a minimum amount of liquid and drink it down as a "shot". I think all of us that use various powdered supplements have our own way of dealing with the taste. The bottom line is you always think to yourself it's good for me so deal with it!
This is the best deal you will find on 100% hydrolyzed whey protein.
Many of the reviews here are treating this product as if it was a "protein shake mix." This is 100% protein powder with no flavors, sweeteners or emulsifiers. If you mix it with water and nothing else, you probably won't love the taste. You can certainly consume it plain, but most people will like to add some flavor.
For my daily protein shake, I like to mix 16oz water, 5T Bulksupplements Pure Hydrolyzed Whey Protein, 2T cocoa powder, 2T cane sugar, 1t creatine monohydrate and 1t sunflower lecithin. The cost per serving using these ingredients is significantly lower than buying premixed hydrolyzed whey protein shakes. (Some of the Bulksupplements protein powders contain soy lecithin-- this powder does NOT. You'll find lecithin in the ingredient mix of most protein shake mixes, as it helps the powder and any flavorings dissolve better. Soy is fine, but I like the taste of sunflower lecithin better)
Hydrolyzed whey is excellent for people who have difficulty digesting dairy. I've used sprouted rice protein for years, since most whey powders don't agree with my stomach. Hydrolyzed whey is totally different though. I can take this protein twice a day without any gas, bloating or any of the other unpleasant digestive affects that whey protein can cause. (If you've ever taken whey protein and had "sticky" bowel movements afterwards, you should try hydrolyzed whey.)
As far as the packaging-- I agree that the recloseable zip is awful. It might as well not even be there. That being said, this is being sold as a bulk ingredient, not a convenience product. A good solution is to reuse the container and scoop from some expensive protein powder that you purchased before you got smart and started making your own.
You're not buying this product for the taste or consistency, but rather for the purity, quality, and value per gram. I feel like the protein lives up to these standards. But when making your decision, I would keep in mind that this protein does not taste great (of course it is meant to be flavorless, but it actually has a taste that requires some getting used to), it foams up a lot in a shaker, and it is quite dusty. I've gotten used to the drawbacks, and I don't intend on going back to my old brand.

Description
Whey is a substance produced during cheese production. It is the liquid content that remains after the milk has curdled and coagulated. Whey can be processed and isolated into three different types of protein: Whey Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate and Whey Protein Hydrolysate. This particular form of Whey Isolate is hydrolyzed, meaning that proteins are broken into small segments to promote rapid and easy digestion. Because of this, amino acid delivery into the bloodstream can be much faster than in typical Whey protein. Whey is a very rich source of protein, which accounts for 80% of its total weight. It builds and repairs muscle tissue and aids in the recovery of exhausted muscles after high intensity physical exercise. The hydrolysis process may give this whey protein a bitter taste, which can be diluted by mixing it into smoothies.
I drink a mix of hydrolyzed protein, cyclic dextrin, and MCT oil about 20 minutes before I work out (basically making my own "3Fuel" because I dislike taste of stevia). I am very happy to have found a quality protein powder that is legitimately hydrolyzed for a reasonable price.
I use Bulksupplements Pure Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate Powder right after my bicycle rides to help with recovery
Athletes who consume whey protein hydrolysate are stimulating their muscle cells' uptake of glucose, according to an animal study done by nutritionists at the University of Campinas in Brazil and published in PLoS ONE. Whey protein hydrolysate doesn't boost the production of insulin but it does activate the glucose transporter GLUT4 in the muscle cells.
If you use your muscles intensively this activates GLUT4. The protein moves to the muscle cells' membranes and absorbs as much possible glucose from the blood. Endurance athletes make use of this principle when they load up with carbs after training. Most of the glucose that makes it to the blood in the first hour after a training session ends up in the muscle cells, and less in the fat cells.
Strength athletes who use fast carbohydrates during or after their workouts also make use of increased GLUT4 activity, thereby chasing extra glucose into the muscle cells. The increased amount of energy in the muscle cells stimulates their growth.
By the way, this strategy doesn't work for all strength athletes. There is a group that gets fat if they do carbohydrate supplementation. That's why we are interested in the Brazilian study: it may tell us how strength and endurance athletes can load up more effectively with carbohydrates.
The Brazilians wondered whether the use of whey or whey protein hydrolysate would boost the activity of GLUT4 during rest or after training. So they did an animal study in which they gave a group of rats feed for nine days that contained casein as a source of protein [CAS]. In two other groups, whey [WP] or whey protein hydrolysate [WHP] functioned as the protein source. Whey protein hydrolysate is whey that has been cut into small pieces.
After nine days the researchers got half of each of the three groups to run on on a treadmill for an hour [Exercised]. Sixteen hours later the researchers examined the muscle cells and the blood of the animals. The researchers also examined the other half of the rats, which had taken no exercise [Sedentary].
both the active and non-active rats the amount of glycogen was highest in the animals that had been given whey protein hydrolysate.
Whey protein hydrolysate did not boost the production of insulin but it did activate the glucose transporter GLUT4 in the muscle cells. That probably happened via the anabolic signal molecule AKT. One way in which AKT becomes more active is when insulin interacts with its receptor, but in this case the increased activity of AKT had nothing to do with the increased insulin effect. Whey protein hydrolysate – and to a less extent non-hydrolysed whey protein – activated GLUT4 independently from insulin.
I like that Bulksupplements Pure Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate Powder is Clean & pure powder
Lab tested for verification & guaranteed purity
Fast shipping, great prices.
After being enlightened by a friend in regards to fillers found in most proteins as well as soy, I started looking for protein with little to no fillers and no soy. Most of the ones I found were priced too high for me. Bulk Supplements has steadily provided me with high quality supplements at very low prices. You guys have a customer for life.
Very fine powder, dissolves very easily, and is much easier on my stomach than regular whey protein isolate
Is what it says it is. Be forewarned it tastes very bad as it's unflavored and the powder is very light and hard to pour. I am still giving five stars because this is a quality product.
