These things look ridiculous attached to my baseball cap. But they work.
Deer flies are very active in these parts from mid-May through the end of June, and when I mow my lawn, they swarm and attack me. We have a large pond and acres of woods, and the deer flies are brutal. They will even bite through gloves.
So put one of these strips on top of your baseball cap. When you are done mowing you might find 70 or 80 deer flies stuck to the strip. And that’s 70 or 80 deer flies that won’t bite you again. I won’t mow in the springtime without having one of these strips on my cap.
I would not have believed it until a guy at the local 3D archery course turned me on to one! The mid-summer flies arrived and I could not even get a few targets in. Went back to quit as the Cutters spray and Thermocell were having little or no effect on the flies. They were actually targeting the back of my neck! The course owner gave me one of these and told me to put it on the back of my hat. Mind you, these are skin colored so put it on something to contrast the color like a darker hat, shirt, etc. when I went back out, they came around but did not land, or I thought they didn't. I had about 20 or so on this dang patch! Some were still flapping away and I am surprised my hat didn't take off! Kidding but seriously, if you have a periodic black fly problem in the summer like we do here, keep these around. I bought enough to give the course owner a bunch and last me a lifetime! Where did I find them, Amazon of course.
This product works great. Before I would have to wear a long sleeves shirt (no fun in hot weather), a large hat, and do a lot of swatting to try to keep from being bitten. Now as I walk along, I will hear and see a few deerfly buzzing around my head, and then it goes silent and they're gone. The patch seems to attract them like a magnet. After a walk, I like to take off my hat and count the number of flies the patch has caught. I got 18 the last time. The patch come off my hat without difficulty and does not leave a residue behind on my hat. Now I don't have to avoid the woods during deerfly season. I have not tried the patch yet in a heavily infested area. When I do, I will put on two patches but I imagine that they would clog up with flies pretty quickly and I would have to stop occasionally to replace the patches as they do.
On morning jogs or afternoon walks with my dog here in the U.P. of MI I will often come home with 30 or more deer flies that have committed suicide by landing on these strips. Every one of these determined little devils would otherwise have been annoying me the whole way. Wouldn't be without these strips for any outdoor activity during deer fly season. Too bad there isn't something similar for the dog.
These work extremely well. Obviously a little patch on your hat is not going to eliminate every deer fly that comes near you, but a remarkable number of them do actually land on the thing and stick. It has definitely made it much more tolerable to be outside when the deer flies are bad.
BTW, I gave some of these away as stocking stuffers last Christmas, and now that it's fly season, I've started getting e-mails from happy campers reporting fly trapping success.

Virtually every deerfly will land on the patch because they target it as a good biting place. Deerflies, sometimes called Marsh Flies, Sheep Flies, May flies, Sand Flies, or Greenheads bite hard. Conventional repellents do not work on them. Used by gardeners, fishermen, hikers, campers, runners, bikers, canoeists, horseback riders, anyone outside. Field tested and recommended by Ohio State University and Michigan Department of Fish and Wildlife. One patch will last up to 3 days on your cap. Shelf life in the package, 2-3 years. Orders before noon will ship same day. Orders in afternoon will ship the next day.
I hate deer flies!!! We have beef cows and I am always out in the pasture and woods checking on them and those blasted flies make life miserable. A friend suggested these and I ordered them on friday and got them on monday. Put one on my hat and headed out the door to check it out!!! WOW is all I can say, the flies came for me, buzzed around for a few seconds and suddenly got quiet. I pulled off my hat and saw why, they were stuck to the patch!!! That is the best place for a deer fly. So glad I bought these.
They are the only thing that works against those biting deer flies. I come home from my daily power walk and it is amazing how many will be stuck to the patch. I hate wearing a cap so I do wish there was some other place to stick the patch that it would work.
GREAT Product!Holy cow, these work! I live in Maine, deerfly capital of North America.I use them every day when outside. My catch record is 32 deerflies in 53 minutes!
I have pictures as proof.
Don't know how I ever lived without these. Put one of these patches on your hat and you don't even know there are deer flies around. They also work for moose flies.
I seem to be the one who attracks these critors! These patches work great! Thank goodness for them. I couldn't walk here on the road wothout them.
