Medline Bed Assist Bar with Storage Pocket, Height Adjustable Bed Rail for Elderly Adults, Assistance for Getting In and Out of Bed at Home

This is just what we needed for an elderly relative who, due to hip and spine issues, was having difficulty steadying herself when getting out of bed in the morning. She is under 100 lbs, so the bar is plenty strong enough to hold her, but I don't know that I'd trust it to hold it up to the weights they claim, as the bar does have some flex to it when used. So the strength of materials is one issue I'd mention. The minimum height is the second issue I'd mention. This relative has what I'd consider a normal height bed, but this device is too tall for it. To be specific, if the bottom of your mattress is lower than 16" from the floor, (hers is about 14" from the floor), this device will be too tall and will slightly lift the mattress. We decided to keep it anyway and may do some adaptations if it becomes a problem. This device was easy to assemble and install (including the straps, which we opted to use). I'd have given it 5 stars if not for the two issues I mentioned.

After leaving the rehab center, my mother needed some assistance getting in/out of bed. Her insurance would not cover her for a hospital bed so we had to find other alternative that would help her. I came across this item and after looking at many ithers, I purchased this one due to the reviews, price and shipping time. The price was really good and I received my item on the same day, the bed assist bar was very easy to assemble. I had everything done in less than 15 minutes. The height was good and it held nice and firm to the floor. Mom began trying it out and loved it. It took her a bit of practice to learn how to use it but now gets up quite easily from her bed. The pocket is a nice addition. She puts her tv remotes in it as well as her medications, tissues and whatever else it holds. The only drawback to it is that it stretches too much and you think that your items are going to fall out even though it does not. The metal is strong, sturdy and solid, the straps that go underneath the mattress is really long and does a good job holding the bar. You could use it on either side of the bed. One suggestions to anyone that buys this product is to tighten up the straps as much as possible because that will provide a sturdy and solid bar support where it will hardly move. Good price for the item and built solidly. I would recommend this product only because of my own experience.

I have had increasing challenges moving around in bed and especially getting out of bed. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's 9 years ago. I was starting to knock my glasses on the floor because I was always feeling on the nightstand for my cell phone or kindle. When I saw this I knew it was what I wanted. It has a pocket for all those things you might want to keep close to you at night, I placed it even with my waist so when I sit down, I can just swing my body around and be right in sleeping position. I use it during the night to help change position, and use it to pull myself up when I want to get out.

I like the looks of it because it has a simple design and a padded handle. Also, it doesn't look so much like a hospital rail. It includes a strap around the matress to it is very secure. The pocket is designed to hang on the outside, but is strapped down do it won't move around when you are feeling around to find something. I would recommend this to anyone who needs some assistance moving around a bed.

I purchased this because I have a very bad back. Mornings are the worst for me. So I had this before getting an adjustable bed, and it worked great, however when I did get an adjustable bed it was a pain in the butt to keep it in place, I then rigged it with my no longer used baby boba baby carrier and strapped the bar that goes between the mattress and base, it worked like a charm 😊 Fast forward a year we finally moved to our house that would fit one and I finally ordered a bedroom set with a bed frame that has side bars. Well at first I had it outside the frame, but I couldn't get it lined up right, so I tucked it between the frame and the bed, Bingo!!! It's perfect no longer need to strap it in, and on top of that it holds the mattress in place!! If any of you have an adjustable bed, then you know, the mattresses slip constantly. So I am now ordering a second one to keep my husbands side of the bed from slipping too!! And the pocket is perfect to put the remote for the bed and plenty of room for probably 10 remotes. Thank you!

This Medline Bed Assist Bar is just what the doctor ordered. A friend is having shoulder surgery and is going to need a some time to recuperate. Getting in and out of bed is going to be difficult. This medline assist bar will help to reduce the stress and strain getting into bed. Just hold onto it and let it support your weight while getting in and out of bed.

This Bed assist bar has a storage pocket, so you can carry books, magazines, a phone, glasses, meds and so on... I like that this bar is almost like a bed rail and offers that sturdy support. The handles are padded and it is easy to use.

This bed assist bar will allow my friend as much independence as possible after shoulder surgery! I recommend it!

When it came time for my dad to come home from weeks in a rehab facility following a broken hip, he really wanted to come home to his own bed and not some rented hospital bed. This device made that possible.

When properly installed, it's clear this device isn't going anywhere, no matter how much weight is pulling against it, even if you are pulling at it sideways. My husband who is 6' 3" and 250 lbs. tested it out before my dad got home and it was very reassuring to see & feel just how secure this assist bar was.

My dad's home health nurse, occupational therapist, and physical therapist all were very impressed with how incredibly secure it is compared to many of those they've seen in homes they visit. Assembly & installation were simple, but be warned that you need two strongish people if you're installing it on a large bed (Queen or King size) because you have to move the mattress around to install the strap that runs across under it and attaches to the bed frame on the other side of the bed. This is the key to why this assist bar is so secure, which is really important when age, injury, etc. means you're using it to pull yourself up to a sitting or standing position - or depending on it for transfers from bed to walker, wheelchair etc.

As I said, installation wasn't at all difficult so long as you've got the necessary muscle around to wrangle with a heavy, bulky, floppy mattress. We couldn't recommend this more highly!

this has been so helpful beside my bed while recovering from knee replacement. I keep my cd player, CD's, headphones and a few other needfuls handy. The only negative it the starp to keep it securely in place does not reach around my king sized bed

I liked the design and ordered it from the hospital before discharge from hip replacement surgery. Item arrived in one day in time to be there the first night I was home. Here’s the wrinkle. My bed has a surround wooden frame that the lower box spring rests in. The lip of the wooden bed frame is higher than the lower box spring and the mattress sits below the lip of the dram by an inch preventing the insertion of the long flat section between mattresses.

This assist bar has been a fantastic asset for my wife. Mounted about 18 inches from the head of the bed under a Sleep Number queen mattress, even without the web strapping attached, it allows a much easier way for her to get in and out of bed. There is no box spring as the mattress is on top of a wooden storage base so we could use a simple screw clamp to fasten the stabilizer bar but this seems unnecessary as the bar is very sturdy from just the mattress weight. This was an excellent buy.

This is the 2nd Assist Bar that I've purchased, so obviously I love it... But as a large, 66-year-old man (6'4"/240, left leg amputated above the knee), I simply wish it was built slightly more sturdy... My first one bent out of shape after I probably exerted too much force on it....
Oh... and my 90-year-old mother has one too... and she LOVES it!
So my quibble with the User Guide:
1) There's no spare parts listing for repairs.
2) Guide said arrow on the support frame should be pointing up... and I don't see any arrows anywhere.
3) Pouch difficult to attach... No mention that a small plastic spacer had to be removed first... And when I did remove it so I could insert the clip, I was praying that I wasn't actually breaking the thing...
